Where we “Created by God to Be Good”?

Seeing that the American Humanist Association is, yet again, out to prove that they have way too much money on their hands I will be 1) providing the text of the article by Jeff Jacoby, Where we “Created by God to Be Good”? (Patriot Post, November 15, 2010) and 2) beginning a series considering the ads described therein.

As December approaches Jews, Christians, Muslims, African Americans, Costanzites, etc. are looking forward to celebrating Hanukkah, Christmas, Ramadan, Kwanzaa, Festivus (as per Seinfeld’s Frank Costanza, “A Festivus, for the rest of us”), etc.
Meanwhile, atheists (perhaps suffering from Holy day envy) are making plans to waste great amounts of money (that could be used to help the needy) in order to besmirch God, the Bible, Jesus, “religion,” etc.

atheism-festivus-4014951

It has become an annual tradition: The days grow shorter, the holidays approach, and the American Humanist Association rolls out an ad campaign promoting atheism and disparaging religion…This year, the association is taking a more combative tone. It is spending $200,000 to “directly challenge biblical morality”…

The ads juxtapose violent or otherwise unpleasant passages from the Bible (or the Koran) with “humanist” quotations from prominent atheists. For example, a dreadful prophecy from the Hebrew prophet Hosea — “The people of Samaria … have rebelled against their God. They will fall by the sword; their little ones will be dashed to the ground, their pregnant women ripped open” — is contrasted with Albert Einstein’s comment that he “cannot imagine a God who rewards and punishes the objects of his creation.”

Of course anyone can cherry-pick quotes to make a point. And of course it is true, as the humanist group’s executive director Roy Speckhardt maintains, that there are “religious texts” that “advocate fear, intolerance, hate, and ignorance.” Religion has often been put to evil purposes or invoked to justify shocking cruelty. Then again, the same is true of every area of human endeavor, from medicine to journalism to philosophy to the law.

But it will take more than a few grim verses plucked out of context to substantiate the core message of the American Humanist Association’s ad campaign: that God and the Judeo-Christian tradition are not necessary for the preservation of moral values and that human reason is a better guide to goodness than Bible-based religion.

Can people be decent and moral without believing in a God who commands us to be good? Sure. There have always been kind and ethical nonbelievers. But how many of them reason their way to kindness and ethics, and how many simply reflect the moral expectations of the society in which they were raised?

In our culture, even the most passionate atheist cannot help having been influenced by the Judeo-Christian worldview that shaped Western civilization. “We know that you can be good without God,” Speckhardt tells CNN. He can be confident of that only because he lives in a society so steeped in Judeo-Christian values that he takes those values for granted. But a society bereft of that religious heritage is one not even Speckhardt would want to live in.

For in a world without God, there is no obvious difference between good and evil. There is no way to prove that murder is wrong if there is no Creator who decrees “Thou shalt not murder.” It certainly cannot be proved wrong by reason alone. One might reason instead — as Lenin and Stalin and Mao reasoned — that there is nothing wrong with murdering human beings by the millions if doing so advances the Marxist cause. Or one might reason from observing nature that the way of the world is for the strong to devour the weak — or that natural selection favors the survival of the fittest by any means necessary, including the killing of the less fit.

It may seem obvious to us today that human life is precious and that the weakest among us deserve special protection. Would we think so absent a moral tradition stretching back to Sinai? It seemed obvious in classical antiquity that sickly babies should be killed. “We drown even children who at birth are weakly and abnormal,” wrote the Roman philosopher Seneca the Younger 2,000 years ago, stressing that “it is not anger but reason” that justifies the murder of handicapped children.

Reason is not enough. Only if there is a God who forbids murder is murder definitively evil. Otherwise its wrongfulness is a matter of opinion. Mao and Seneca approved of murder; we disapprove. What makes us think we’re right?

The God who created us created us to be good. Atheists may believe — and spend a small fortune advertising — that we can all be “good without God.” History tells a very different story.

I found two comments particularly telling as they reminded me of a statement made by Richard Dawkins; they are, “a society bereft of that religious heritage is one not even Speckhardt would want to live in” and “It certainly cannot be proved wrong by reason alone.”
Here is Richard Dawkins’ statement when he considered “If somebody used my views to justify a completely self – centred lifestyle, which involved trampling all over other people” he concludes:

I think I would be fairly hard put to it to argue on purely intellectual grounds. I think it would be more:

“This is not a society in which I wish to live. Without having a rational reason for it necessarily, I’m going to do whatever I can to stop you doing this.”

I couldn’t, ultimately, argue intellectually against somebody who did something I found obnoxious.
I think I could finally only say, “Well, in this society you can’t get away with it’ and call the police.”

Of course, he presupposes that the society/government/police would agree with him. Let him call the Gestapo in order to complain about Nazi mistreatment of Jews…he would be their next target.
At least, he states, “I realise this is very weak, and I’ve said I don’t feel equipped to produce moral arguments.”

See Atheist Bus Ads and Billboards for previous example of the fact that such atheist ads only prove the utter fallacy of the well-within-the-box-atheist-groupthink-talking-points-de-jour of such organizations.

Feathered dinosaur tail found in amber—or do we dare follow the worms?

This is a follow up on Was a feathered dinosaur tail & soft tissue found in amber? wherein I noted that I wrote to both authors of the science paper “A Feathered Dinosaur Tail with Primitive Plumage Trapped in Mid-Cretaceous Amber” to ask about their statement “If DIP-V-15103 indeed represents a juvenile coelurosaur tail…”

Ryan McKellar confirmed to me that the “If” regards the status as “juvenile” I wrote this back to him “Thank you so much. That really helps because it seemed that the paper does not do much detailed arguing (or, evidencing) for as to why it is thought to be a coelurosaur.”
He never replied, and I know not why but perhaps he does not want to have to answer about how/why they assert that it is a coelurosaur.

Some reached me via my website’s contact page, claimed to be a long time amber collector from Myanmar and disagreed with the paper claiming that a feathered dinosaur tail was found in amber.

He stated, “look very carefully and zoom in on the high res pictures, personally I believe it is a feathered nematode worm which were common at that time and possibly a more genuine reason for extinctions than comments, scientists do not like nematodes as they are not newsworthy and if dino tail were real I would say I have many but actually all are part of a worm invasion from the streams in the valleys, I post my inclusions on Facebook if you are there. I attach some pics for fun and one I make a red square for you to examine inside as one example and inside you can see very clearly it is not a tail but a nematode.”

BTW: note that, apparently, ants have not evolved in miiiiiiiiiiillions of years

Well, I cannot verify that this person is what they claim to be and I got no reply when I asked for his Facebook URL.

However, if he is right then he is right and his claim can be compared to the Ryan McKellar, et al.’s claim as is.

So, what thinkest thou?

Did the Watcher fallen angels genetically manipulate humans & animals? 2 of 2

We conclude, from part 1, considering various and sundry claims regarding the question posed by the title of this article.

The page They Live Among Us made so many fallacious claims that I decided to pose this part 2 to deal with it.

It begins by quoting Enoch 7 and makes the good point:

It is generally believed that the termed “sinned against” means that the Nephilim mixed their seed with other creatures. Hard to imagine it was done with conventional sexual mounting methods since fish were involved, so this is a clear indication that test tube methods were invoked.

Sadly, this devolves into statement such as that “Many Nephilim were human in appearance” when there is no indication that any of them did not look human even if they were bigger than the average person.

In seeking to justify a favored speculation, some go as far as contradicting the Bible for example, “Some argue that these creatures were all destroyed at the time of the flood, yet there are oral and written records of different tribes of people that hid in the bowels of the earth to protect themselves from the coming flood.” So, the written word of God tells us that the flood brought about “The end of all flesh…to destroy all flesh…every thing that is in the earth shall die…all flesh died that moved upon the earth, both of fowl, and of cattle, and of beast, and of every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth, and every man…All in whose nostrils was the breath of life, of all that was in the dry land, died…And every living substance was destroyed which was upon the face of the ground, both man, and cattle, and the creeping things, and the fowl of the heaven; and they were destroyed from the earth: and Noah only remained alive, and they that were with him in the ark” (see Genesis 6-7) Yet, we are made to believe we should discount this due to some unnamed, undated, unquoted and uncited records which claim otherwise.

However, never mind since it is also stated that “It is a moot point if they survived, since Gen 6. clearly states, that after the flood there was a second outfall of angels that came to the earth to mate with human women creating more Nephilim.” We at least have a citation but no quotation which is simply a very unclear, “There were giants in the earth in those days; and also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare children to them, the same became mighty men which were of old, men of renown” (6:4). I say unclear only in as much as that it is being assumed that “those days” must mean pre-flood and thus, “also after that” must mean post-flood. The rest of the entire Bible never mentions any such post-flood event which is good reason to not take “also after that” to refer to post-flood.

Genesis 6 begins by giving us a general timeline as “it came to pass, when men began to multiply on the face of the earth, and daughters were born unto them, That the sons of God saw the daughters of men…” Thus, it is contextual to consider the “in those days” to be “when men began to multiply on the face of the earth, and daughters were born unto them” and the “also after that” a simple reference to thereafter. Since Genesis then tells us about the destruction of any and all flesh with the exception of Noah’s family then we can contextually conclude that “also after that” was a pre-flood time.

We are then told that “These new offspring undoubtedly went off to mix their seed with other creatures in the earth that began to multiply and replenish the earth” which is the main reason for dealing with these claims here as they reference mixing with other creatures.

Next we are told, “As the Nephilim began to replenish their soulless seed on the earth, God had instructed Israel to slaughter every Nephilim…The problem was that in time, Israel began to mate with the Nephilim tribes and the Holy Seed was lost.” For this, we are given a quotation and citation, “For they have taken some of their daughters as wives for themselves and their sons, so that the holy seed is mixed with the peoples of those lands. Indeed, the hand of the leaders and rulers has been foremost in this trespass. ‘So when I heard this thing, I tore my garment and my robe, and plucked out some of the hair of my head and beard, and sat down astonished.’ Ezra 9:2-3” As we have seen, the Nephilim did not “replenish their soulless seed on the earth” and generic references to people being “tall” or “very tall” simply is not nearly enough to tie them to the Nephilim, consider them to have been hybrids, etc. Notice how in seeking to puff up a favored theory the result is that we are told that “the Holy Seed was lost” which the Bible not only never states but would mean that Jesus was not of the seed of Abraham which He had to be in order to qualify as Messiah.

No, Israel did not begin to mate with the Nephilim tribes but began to mate with non-Israelites, non-Hebrews, non-Jews which is the only thing that Ezra 9:2-3 is telling us, “the holy seed is mixed with the peoples of those lands” and no indication that this somehow means that “the Holy Seed was lost.” As for the Nephilim in particular, the only other time in the entire Bible where the term even appears is when Caleb and others are sent out to spy out the land. They return and offer a discouraging report, Caleb then offers an encouraging report and the rest of the spies take it up a notch and claim to have seen descendants of the Nephilim within a report which the Bible refers to as “bad” and/or “evil,” see Did Caleb and the spies see Nephilim giants in the land?

In keeping with the manner whereby one fallacy leads to folly leads to well, we are then told that werewolves, vampires and reptilians denoted, “three species of non-humans exist all around us.” The logic runs thusly, vampires, “were created when Nephilim fused their DNA with vampire bats.” “Reptilians are non-humans that can shapeshift” so your friendly neighbor could be a hybrid behind closed doors as we are told, “The Nephilim of today look like the people next door” which is really convenient (for the Nephilim and those claiming that Nephilim are still around without evidence). Yet, we are directed to view “Shapeshifters Caught on Film” with examples being as follows which are from an actual and serious website.

Let’s play you might be a shape shifting reptilian:

If, as in the case of Bill Clinton and George Bush, you clench your jaw then you might be a shape shifting reptilian.

They end up referring to gigantism and note that it “is an excessive secretion of growth hormone” from an overactive pituitary gland. Yet, they merely assert that “once in a while recessive genes switch on and the person becomes a full blown Nephilim. This is called Gigantism.” They also merely assert that psychopathy is the result of Nephilism. In other words, they just take any characteristic they view as negative and claim that it is due to Nephilim genetics namely.

They basically leave off with the claim that “They are the bad seeds planted among us, Matt. 13,” which is utter folly as the Matthew 13 issue is sinful actions and not Nephilim genetics, see Did Jesus teach the serpent seed of Satan theory in the parable of the sower?.

skeptic

Biologists or, rather, Darwinist, PZ Myers has announced “I officially divorce myself from the skeptic movement.” Interestingly, with his divorce proceedings, as it were, he noted, “the existence of gods is not a testable claim” and one can understand why he would make the claim since PZ Myers is an adherent of the positive affirmation of God’s non-existence sect of Atheism (about whom you can learn here). In other words, he mere asserts the non-existence of God—period.
