We continue and conclude considering the disappointing discussion on the Think Humanism (aka restricted thinking due to adherence to atheism) website which posed a question/statement, Atheism is a religion???!!! As previously noted, one commentator eruditely elucidated with the following (this is the entire text of the comment):
How about baldness as a hairstyle? or atheism as a ‘belief’.

There are certainly many ways to tackle this issue. The question is opened to be discussed in the comments section. What do you think? Is it or is it not?

In part, one issue is how one defines “religion.” For example:

1) Some would look it up in the dictionary de jour and demand adherence to whatever it stated.

2) Some define it as a systematization of the worship of some supernatural something.
3) The New Testament’s only favorable reference to “religion” is, “Pure and undefiled religion before God and the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their trouble, and to keep oneself unspotted from the world” (James 1:27)—see, The Most Anti-Religion Book Ever Published
4) _________________ (fill in the blank).

Thus, let us consider the following and leave the rest to the comments section.

On the issue of origins, there is much to consider: from the universe, to the Earth, to life, etc. The ultimate atheist answer to this is the same as the ultimate atheist answer to anything and everything, “It just is,” or “It just happened,” or “It just happens to have happened that way,” “Coincidence,” “Happenstance,” “Time’did’it,” “Matter’did’it,” “Chance’did’it,” “the multiverse’did’it,” the most recent by Stephen Hawking, “Gravity’did’it,” etc.

The universe either popped into being uncaused or from previous universes which popped into being uncaused, or from a multiverse which popped into being uncaused, etc. It used to be “It’s just turtles all the way down” but now the latest of atheist erudition the latest philosophy and the latest science states, “It’s just multiverses all the way down.” In fact, the multiverse is the atheist’s supernatural realm.

Life came into being due to a miracle…oops, replace the word miracle with the word “luck” and you are getting somewhere. Indeed, consider that this was the famous biologist and Professor, Richard Dawkins’ explanation for the origins of life, “luck” (The Blind Watchmaker, p. 145 also see and John Horgan, “In the Beginning…” – Scientific American).

Atheists also believe in mythological creatures such as a common ancestor and tell Victorian Era tall tales about our past (see Atheist and Darwinian Science and Story Telling).

They also have their priestly class (see Scientific Cenobites and Scientific Cenobites – Some notes on Skepticism).

Lastly, let us simply note that for the atheist, the ultimate reality, in a manner of speaking, is: that which brought the universe and life into being and/or fine tuned the universe and/or rules the universe is uncaused, invisible, immutable, omnipresent and omnipotent laws—sound familiar?

In short, what we are lead to believe is that we must leave behind our primitive superstitions and adhere to the erudition of atheism:
It is ignorant and superstitious to believe that God made everything out of nothing. It is rational and scientific to believe that nothing made everything out of nothing.

It is ignorant and superstitious to believe that God is eternal. It is rational and scientific to believe that matter is eternal.

God is an effect and must have had a cause. Matter is the uncaused first cause.

If God made everything, then who made God? Matter made everything and nothing made matter.

What thinkest thou?

Sherry Shriner asserts that “The tree of knowledge was the means to sexual knowledge” even though the Bible clearly states that it was the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. She attempts to get around this by noting that indeed, to know refers to gaining knowledge or sexual union.

Shriner then essentially trails off by writing that Eve “was already pregnant with Lucifer’s child, Cain. And that is what the Illuminati bloodlines of the New World Order don’t want you to know…”

Sherry Shriner then embarks upon a train of thought regarding that “There are two different groups of people…Those who are elected to grace while the other is elected for wrath and destruction.” She then asks “It is a specific seedline?” answers “No” and explains, “Although it may sound like it means just that, it does not mean that all. That would be like saying all those born into a cursed seedline are doomed for hell and all those born into Yahweh’s chosen seedline are awarded heaven.” Well indeed, it would since one line has literal Satanic genetics.

She references that “The choices Yahweh makes, the choices Lucifer are allowed to make, and the individual choices we make” are “aspects that come into play at all times in regarding all things.”

She then gets close to actually understanding the seedline issue: that it is about actions and not genetics. For example, she notes that “Esau was born of a good seedline but he chose to go the way of the wicked. Just as those born of cursed seedlines can choose to go the way of the righteous.” How can one chose to change their genetics? They cannot and that is the point: Esau chose a certain action.

He further notes, “it was Esau who married into the cursed Cain race, corrupting his seed and offspring. He wasn’t born into a cursed seedline, he turned his back on his good seedline and went the way of the wicked.”

She then references “the House of Israel, the 14 tribes. We (America) are part of Israel folks. Now don’t go off into the British Israelism theory because it is flawed…” Well, at least she got that last part right, see Serpent seed of Satan in British-Israelism, Anglo-Israelism & Christian Identity. However, she does claims that “the scattered tribes of Israel today they include Germany, France, Britain, America, and others..the predominant white races of the world. America itself contains a mixture of all the tribes of Israel…Manasseh is dominate in America, the 14th tribe of Israel while Britain is Ephraim. Reuben is France, Dan is Greece, etc.” (first, partial, ellipses in original). Yet, this is not my focus and since she then goes to the issue of the Edomites Jews that is as far as I will consider her article with one exception which is a transcript. Sherry Shriner wrote, “Yahweh told me this in regards to mixing of the seedlines:

Daughter,
…They worship Baal and call him their god thinking I am the one they worship…Yes Mithra has hidden through the ages behind every god and he will ultimately rise again to counterfeit Me and My Word. I will reveal this to you because you seek My face, you seek Me, and I will reveal great things to you because you are humble and faithful…

The rest of it is pretty Hallmark Valentines day card stuff with God telling her how much she loves her and on it goes.

Along with the insistence of promulgating the serpent seed of Satan theory comes constant and rightful rebuking of such popularizers. It is getting to the point, or so it seems, that they are forming a form of Neo-Gnosticism.

This theory asserts that Cain is Satan’s literal son as Eve had sex with Satan.

One of their big selling points is the assertion that God has kept the serpent seedline of Satan theory a hidden mystery—until now. Thus, such promulgators place themselves in the position of revealing one of the greatest mysteries of the ages.

This alone is enough to make someone feel special as they are on to something, by golly, and something big at that—perhaps the biggest thing around. After all, while serpent seedline of Satan theorists vary they, collectively, claim that it unravels Satan’s plans, exposes the Illuminati, topples the New World Order and you can toss into the mix Zionism, Freemasonry, shapeshifting reptilian aliens and Big Foot while you are at it.

People love a good mystery as much as they love unraveling one. Now, just because the Bible refers to mysteries that are to remain hidden for some time does not mean that the serpent seedline of Satan theory is such a revealed mystery.

Yet, if you do not accept the serpent seedline of Satan theory, the theorists are ramping up the claim that—well, for example:
One of the neo-pop-serpent seed of Satan theorists is Zen Garcia. He podcasted a show with Jonathan Kleck and the show description reads, in part, “God bless you whom have opened yourself to such understanding.” This is a very low level and tame example and yet, the take away is that if you do not accept it, it is because you have not opened yourself to such understanding (and you are thus, not blessed by God; at least not on this account).

Serpent seed theorists seem to consider themselves a special class and more enlightened than thou. It is very common for these theorists to make claims such as popularizer of the theory Enterthe5t4rz claims special revelation from the Holy Spirit on this issue.

Zen Garcia wrote, “The truth, for those that accept it, will build you faith tenfold and draw you closer to Yeshua. Because, now, you will finally understand…” this or that about the Bible with this or that being things that Christians have understood for two millennia now without any need for the theory.

In his self-description at the self-publishing Lulu site, Zen states this, “Seekers of lost paradise may seem fools to those who never sought other worlds.”

Joel H. Emerson wrote the following in his book The Serpent’s Seed, “THE SERPENT’S SEED expounds upon a Biblical doctrine that is essential for the proper understanding of both the Scriptures…”

On his site The Open Scroll Bob Schlenker notes the following in the article “Who is Cain’s Father? Part One”:

…unless you really grasp the importance of seed and what happened in the Garden between the serpent, Eve and Adam you’re missing a major “piece of the puzzle.” Without it, you won’t be able to interpret some really important elements of the counterfeit and the genuine agendas playing out in these last days.

Schlenker notes, “How can I write with confidence on this subject? Because the Lord showed me, and I know it” and his site is described thusly, “The Open Scroll is a ministration to the saints according to the working of the holy spirit in Bob Schlenker.”

It is as if they are forming a neo-Gnosticism based on their claims to have received personal revelations about the Serpent Seed theory and if you disagree then you are just not enlightened enough. They know the secret, the Holy Spirit has spoken to them and given them a special revelation, etc. Moreover, anyone who disagrees has not had it revealed to them yet and are thus not privy to this Holy Spirit personal revelation mystery.

Thus far and in general most such theorists are not claiming that this is a salvation issue and are not claiming that those who disagree are not Christians. Also, those of us who reject the theory are not claiming that this is a salvation issue and are not claiming that those who hold to the theory are not Christians (at least not on this basis alone).

In The Two Seeds of Genesis 3:15 (1982 AD, pp. 12-13, 18, 26-27), Charles Lee Mange aka Dan Gayman (about whom I wrote here) wrote:

No subject in Divine Scripture carries more weight and deserves our attention with greater emphasis than does the two seeds…
It is the seed plot of all scripture. The proper understanding of this scripture is vital to the total pattern of discerning all scripture…

If you seek to be a follower of Jesus Christ, if you are concerned with understanding the Holy Bible…will stand or fall in relationship to what you do with Genesis 3:15. Failure to understand and divide this subject could ultimately exclude you from membership in the ecclesia [the church] of Jesus Christ…

You by the grace of God now have the key to unlock the Bible…you have the understanding as to the meaning of Genesis 3:15. May you use this KNOWLEDGE to the GLORY of JESUS CHRIST and His kingdom…or God will curse you in your sin!…

Without the proper understanding and placement of this truth into the total Cannon [sic] of Divine Truth there will be very little, if any, progress made in lifting the veil of darkness from our people now in bondage in the churches…

The understanding of these two seed lines is truly one of the most critical theological questions of our time. To deny the seed lines of the Bible is to deny the testimony of the Prophets, Apostles, and the very words of Jesus Christ himself. Indeed the two seed lines established in Genesis 3:15 is the central issue at stake in the Gospel of the Kingdom…

Only the ecclesia, the very elect, can perceive and understand the truth of the two seeds of Genesis 3:15…

…you are without spiritual discernment if you have not already been convinced that the serpent had seed…

Overall, the theorists seem to me ramping up their self-appointed exhalation and we will have to see just how far they will go.

Shriner points out that Eve stated:

“The serpent beguiled me, and I did eat.” In Strong’s, #398 the term “eat” means to eat, also to lay. The term “touch” in Strong’s is #5060 which means naga, to touch, also to have sexual intercourse. Both terms had and have sexual connotations to them.

As is very common to Serpent Seed of Satan theorists, Shriner basically just notes various meanings/definitions and pick the ones that she thinks will support her preconceived notions rather than letting the text define the terms. For those who are not used to using Strong’s Concordance, be aware that there is no such thing as Strong’s #398 or #5060 because Strong’s number are always preceded by either an “H” for Hebrew or “G” for Greek. Thus, she means H398 and H5060. Now, is H398 eat and lay (not that it would matter if it is defined as both)? Of 810 instances of this word in the Bible the KJV, for example, translates it as, “eat (604x), devour (111x), consume (32x), miscellaneous (55x).”

Here is the entry in Stong’s:

Outline of Biblical Usage: I.to eat, devour, burn up, feed A.(Qal), i.to eat (human subject), ii.to eat, devour (of beasts and birds), iii.to devour, consume (of fire), iv.to devour, slay (of sword), v.to devour, consume, destroy (inanimate subjects – ie, pestilence, drought), vi.to devour (of oppression) B.(Niphal), i.to be eaten (by men), ii.to be devoured, consumed (of fire), iii.to be wasted, destroyed (of flesh) C.(Pual), i.to cause to eat, feed with, ii.to cause to devour D.(Hiphil), i.to feed, ii.to cause to eat

Strong’s Definitions:
אָכַל ʼâkal, aw-kal’; a primitive root; to eat (literally or figuratively):—× at all, burn up, consume, devour(-er, up), dine, eat(-er, up), feed (with), food, × freely, × in…wise(-deed, plenty), (lay) meat, × quite.

Do you see what happens when you actually double check claims? Sherry Shriner made it sound as if this word is either or: eat or lay and since you can go either way with it then it is just as valid to claim that it means “lay” and does so with a sexual connotation. Yet, the one and only reference to “lay” within the definitions is “(lay) meat”—whatever that means.

What about H5060 which is supposedly “touch” and to have sexual intercourse? Of 150 instances the KJV translates it as, “touch (92x), came (18x), reach (11x), bring (4x), near (4x), smite (4x), nigh (3x), plagued (3x), happeneth (2x), strike (2x), beaten (1x), cast (1x), reach up (1x), brought down (1x), join (1x), laid (1x), get up.”
Strong’s has:

Strong’s Definitions:
נָגַע nâgaʻ, naw-gah’; a primitive root; properly, to touch, i.e. lay the hand upon (for any purpose; euphemistically, to lie with a woman); by implication, to reach (figuratively, to arrive, acquire); violently, to strike (punish, defeat, destroy, etc.):—beat, (× be able to) bring (down), cast, come (nigh), draw near (nigh), get up, happen, join, near, plague, reach (up), smite, strike, touch.

This time is more explicit—if we take the most minority usage as explicit—as it can mean, if the context calls for it, “lay the hand upon (for any purpose; euphemistically, to lie with a woman).” Yet, of course, the Serpent Seed of Satan theory is not justified by one minority and partial euphemistic usage.

Sherry Shriner notes that “Most church pastors today will pull out Genesis 4:1 which reads, ‘And Adam knew Eve his wife; and she conceived, and bare Cain, and said, I have gotten a man from the Lord.’” Well, of course, because it utterly discredits that Serpent Seed of Satan theory. Yet, she then notes that “There are many omissions and translation errors throughout the Bible.” Then, fascinatingly, she notes:

The Dead Sea Scrolls confirm that Genesis 4:1 was tampered with. In fact the passage should read:

And Adam knew his wife Eve, who was pregnant by Sammael (Satan), and she conceived and bare Cain, and he was like the heavenly beings, and not like the earthly beings, and she said, I have gotten a man from the angel of the Lord.

This is fascinating because the fact is that the are a very fragmentary collection of texts and the fact is that Genesis 4:1 is not represented in the Dead Sea Scrolls (probably why she does not provide a citation). So whence comes the quotation? As far as I can tell, it is a peculiar paraphrase of the Targum of Palestine aka Targum of Jonathan Ben Uzziel yet, more accurately the Targum Pseudo-Jonathan which dates from the 600s AD. The text actually reads, “And Adam knew Hava his wife, who had desired the Angel; and she conceived, and bare Kain; and she said, I have acquired a man, the Angel of the Lord.”

This has multiple problems such as that Hava/Eve had sex with, knew, Adam even though she “had desired the Angel.” This Targum’s Genesis 3:6 has the being with whom Eve interacted as being “Sammael, the angel of death” yet Satan is not an Angel but is a Cherub (Ezekiel 28:14) and he is not the “angel of death.” Also, Cain is said to be “the Angel of the Lord” (FYI: Angles and Cherubs are different categories of being, have different titles, different job functions and look different).

Apparently, even this very late dated and folklore filled paraphrase was not enough to Sherry Shriner and so she, apparently, invented an even less biblical version to the effect that Even “was pregnant by Sammael” which she simply asserts is “(Satan)” but even though Cain was Satan’s son, “he was like the heavenly beings” and even though Eve had gotten a son from Satan she states that she got him “from the angel of the Lord.”
Compare this, for example, to another Targum, that of Onkelos which dates to the 2nd century AD and reads very commonly, “And Adam knew Hava his wife, and she conceived, and gave birth to Kain; and she said, I have acquired the man from before the Lord.”

Note that even though Genesis 4:1 is not found among the Dead Sea Scrolls, Genesis 4:2 is found therein and it reads as follows in 4Q2 Genesisb “Again she gave birth, to Cain’s brother Abel. Abel was a keeper of sheep, but Cain was a tiller of the ground.” Since verse 2 is as it is commonly known then it is safe to assume that verse 1 likewise read as it is commonly known. In fact, all ancient Hebrew, Greek, Syriac and other languages have 4:1 as it is commonly known and it is not until over half a millennia after the time of Jesus that a very late dated Targum invents a new version of it.

Now, as per Serpent Seedline of Satan theorists Genesis’ reference to “tree” is a reference to Satan. This is because Adam and Eve are forbidden from partaking of it but when she does so “fruit” is said to be sex with Satan. Of course, Adam also partook of the fruit so what does that tell you?
Sherry Shriner states, “Trees are often used as metaphors in regards to people. Jesus was the ‘tree of life.’” So apparently, they were forbidden to have sex with Satan but allowed to have sex with Jesus: heterosexual sex for Eve and homosexual sex for Adam. Genesis 2:16-17 states, “Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat: But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it.” Thus, if and since “Trees are often used as metaphors in regards to people” and this is the case with the tree of the knowledge of good and evil being Satan then Adam and Eve were allowed to have sex with a whole bunch of people who or whatever they were.

She attempts to get out of this self made conundrum by asserting “Who was the tree of life in the Garden of Eden? Yahshua [Jesus] was” in the very same way that “the tree of the knowledge of good and evil” was “Lucifer.” So then; it must be the same case, symbolism, with both? Well now, because she decides to simply ask “How do we ‘eat of the tree of life?’” and answers, “We commune with Him” but “We are never to commune with Lucifer, and in this instance he seduced Eve, impregnated her, and began his own genealogical offspring and seedline on this earth that is part of us today.” So simply because it would cause her problems, she decides to claim that fruit in one case is commune and fruit in the other case is sex—such a claim discredits itself.

Of course, just because, for example, Jesus likens trees to people and fruits as their actions does not mean that we can read that symbolism back to Genesis as it has its own context which does not, logically or theologically, allow for any such interpretation.

Sherry Shriner is a popularizer of various and sundry fringe issues including that which is of interest herein and that is the Serpent Seed of Satan theory.
Other interests of hers include selling orgone energy guns, asking people to “Support Our War against the Aliens, Reptilians, Nephilim Giants…They’re not just coming in on Planet X, Nibiru, and other HUGE space objects and star ships and star fleets, but they also live in underground cities and assimilate into our societies soul scalping humans and breeding their own hybrids among us” and asking people to “Sign My Petition to End the Presence of the New World Order in America: Let’s Take Our Country Back!”

In view is Sherry Shriner article The Serpent Seedline: Edomite Jews and the Sons of Cain. I am going to focus on the specific attempts at elucidating the Serpent Seed of Satan theory. In short, her peripheral point is that “Edomite Jews are not real bloodline Jews.”

In the Cain, The Serpent’s Seed subsection, she notes:

In Genesis 3:15a He said, “And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed.” Enmity means mutual hatred. He is saying there is mutual hatred between the seedline of Satan’s and the seedline of Eve’s. So there are two seedlines. The serpent seed started with Cain and Adam’s seed started with Seth.

A point that generally gets lost in discussions with Serpent Seedline of Satan theorists is that indeed, there are two seedlines. Yet, these are based on actions—sinful versus righteous, Satanic versus Godly—and not based on genetics. Thus, yes there is enmity/mutual hatred and yes the “serpent seed” started with Cain and Adam’s seed started with Seth due to actions and not genetics. For example, cutting to the chase and going to the point. 1 John 3:12 is very explicit in stating, “Cain, who was of that wicked one, and slew his brother.” It even tells us why he did so, “And wherefore slew he him?” due to his Satanic genetics? No, rather, “Because his own works were evil, and his brother’s righteous.” Cain is considered to be “of that wicked one…Because his own works were evil” works as in actions. Verse 8 had stated that “He that committeth sin” again, as in action and not genetics, “is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil” destroy the works, as in actions, and not the genetics of the devil.

Verse 9 states, “Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin” as in actions, “for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God” not born genetically but due to actions such as repentance and being born again.

She actually quoted 1 John 3:12 from The New Testament in Modern English, The Living Bible, The New English Bible, The New Century Bible, The New Jerusalem Bible and even via the commentaries of The Wycliffe Bible, Matthew Poole and Matthew Henry. Yet, she actually only quotes circa one third of it; perhaps because the rest of the verse would discredit her assertions. The commentaries merely affirm that which the verse states. The issue is that Shriner is manipulating the text by only partially quoting it and then partially quoting the commentaries to make it appear as if they are supporting her misinterpretation.

Sherry Shriner then makes a reference to “they” and I would imagine that “they” are the “Edomite Jews”:

No matter how they have tried to cover it up in the KJV, the Dead Sea Scrolls and even verses such as Gen. 3:15 make it clear that Satan had his own seedline and it started back with Eve.

So you see how this goes? The claim of two seedlines sounds biblical because it is but not in accordance to the Serpent Seedline of Satan theory and we will see why not.

Serpent Seed of Satan theorists represent a form of neo-Gnosticism who claim special revelation, such is the case with Sherry Shriner:

Many of you are hearing this for the first time. Because if you have sat in church programming all of your lives you haven’t heard the truth even though it is right there in the Bible. The apple was figurative for sexual relations masked with the terminology “Eve was beguiled by Satan” and until people accept it as the truth it is, they will stay blind to the real war going on today which is between the serpent seedline and the rest of the human race.

Many of you are hearing this for the first time because it was proposed, it was considered and it was found to be heretical. She refers to that which is right there in the Bible and yet, “The apple” is not: the issue was an unspecified “fruit” and not a specified “apple.”
In any regard, she asserts that the apple “was figurative for sexual relations” let us see how she seeks to back this claim:

Beguiled used in this text is the same as “seduced.” Furthermore, Scripture says Cain “was of that wicked one” he was a son of Satan’s through the seduction of Eve. The term “of” is the same that means offspring. Neither is Cain listed anywhere in the descendents of Adam which strongly indicates Cain was not his son. The official beginning of the wheat and the tares began with Eve. The wheat AND the tares.

She seems to miss the point that as with any word, term or phrase: “beguiled” and “seduced” are defined by the context. She is merely implying that “beguiled” and “seduced” have something to do with sex when there is no textual/contextual reason for concluding that this is the case. In fact, she attempt to prove is by the 1 John 3 text but as we have already seen above, this is simply invalid.

Genesis 5:4 notes that Adam “begat sons and daughters” plural and yet, they do not appear “anywhere in the descendents of Adam” with the exception of Abel and Seth. There are, at least, two reasons for this: 1) Cain absconded from Adam and Eve and thus, started his own family line and 2) the purpose of the genealogies is not just to list people or to list each and every person but in order to eventually draw a line from Adam and Eve to Jesus; Seth is in that line and the many other sons and daughters of Adam and Eve are not.

By wheat and tares Sherry Shriner is referring to Jesus parables about which you can read here:

These are important to read since, for example, she asserts, “In John 8:44 Jesus was speaking to the Pharisees and proclaimed, ‘Ye are of your father the devil..’ The term ‘of’ meaning generation, offspring. They were of the physical seed of their father the devil.”
