How some Jews manipulate the answer to “Who is a Jew?”

We continue, from part 1, part 2, part 3, part 4, part 5, part 6, part 7, considering pop-research on the issue of the historical Jesus and Jesus mythicism with regards to some Atheists who have taken to the utterly radical view that Jesus never even existed. I have been considering Michael Paulkovich and Raphael Lataster and, in this case, I got into a comment section discussion within an article written by YouTube celebrity Atheist AaronRa that was simply titled “Jesus never existed” November 3, 2015 AD.

See my article Historical Jesus – two centuries worth of citations wherein I chronicled 205 texts that reference Jesus dating from pre 70 AD to 200-250 AD

While, as per the previous segment, I was engaged with Rabbi Stuart Federow the Jewish person lorasinger commented again and for some odd reason again told me about myself:

Wiki states: “True Free Thinker is a Christian apologetic website run by Ken Ammi that has a strong emphasis on the refutation of various forms of atheism.[1][2] In addition, Ammi wrote Creation Ministries International’s main article rebutting atheism”.

Ken is an Argentinian-American Jewish Christian who attended private Jewish school and had his Bar Mitzvah in Israel. He has been involved in Christian apologetics as a researcher and lecturer for nearly a decade and has had articles published in an apologetics journal.

You can find the CMI article here.

Lorasinger continued that comment with the following:

You wrote: “am now following Judaism’s new covenant as per the Messiah”

How can there be a new covenant when the first one is eternal? The term “new covenant is be meaningless in terms of an “Eternal covenant” unless what Jeremiah meant by it was the renewing of the old covenant, which would regain its full original force. The old covenant is of eternal duration, never to be rescinded or to be superseded by a new covenant (Leviticus 26:44-45). The covenant between God and Israel is everlasting (e.g., Genesis 17:7, 13, 19; Psalms 105:8, 10; 1 Chronicles 16:13-18).

Good bull[****] baffles brains technique, almost the level of the early church fathers, Ken. A messianic Jew is a Southern Baptist in Jewish garb, a Jew only by virtue of having been born into a Jewish family. This brings a chuckle too – Coalition of Torah Observant Messianic Congregations – That’s like Coalition of Lifelong chastity on the part of the Duggars.

You will note that they are getting emotional and are rabbit trailing into utterly irrelevant topics such as the Duggar family.

Here is my focused reply:

Friend, it does not cease to amaze me how you simply ignore inconvenient facts.

I had an interesting exchange with whatjewsbelieve’s Rabbi Federow. I asked him why his article differed from the Encyclopedia Judaica reference to the Halakah, the Talmud, etc. He stated that “There is a difference simply because there are different halachic rulings from different rabbis” which is that rich diversity of thought that I mentioned various times and which you always ignore. He was also very honest in stating “In the article I wrote, I cited Plenty of rabbis’ Responsas that said what I concluded [sic.].”
In other words, he just picked one single line of opinions and pretended that it was the only one because it suited his purposes. This is why I have warned you time and again against Rabbinic Talmudic polemics; they make generic statement based on partial information.

I am not sure why you are quoting an unnamed “Wiki” but I suppose I will say thanks for the advertising.

Now, let us be quite straight with each other as you decided to plagiarize Jews for Judaism this time which is why, yet again, you have gone wrong. They and you seem to ignore the fact that there are many covenants within the Tanakh such as the Adamic, Noahide, Abrahamic, Mosaic, Davidic, etc.

Leviticus 26:44-45 reads “44 And yet for all that, when they are in the land of their enemies, I will not reject them, neither will I abhor them, to destroy them utterly, and to break My covenant with them; for I am HaShem their G-d. 45 But I will for their sakes remember the covenant of their ancestors, whom I brought forth out of the land of Egypt in the sight of the nations, that I might be their G-d: I am HaShem.”
Now, Jews for Judaism told you that what they were citing was about how “The old covenant is of eternal duration, never to be rescinded or to be superseded by a new covenant” but obviously, “I will not…break My covenant…I will for their sakes remember the covenant” does not in any ways mean that.

Now, Genesis 17:7, 13, 19 is a better fit for your point as it refers to “an everlasting covenant” twice and makes it clear that this is the Abrahamic covenant, “Sarah thy wife shall bear thee a son…I will establish My covenant with him for an everlasting covenant” yet, of course, this was before the Mosaic covenant which followed it. Psalms 105:8, 10 states, “8 He hath remembered His covenant for ever, the word which He commanded to a thousand generations…10 And He established it unto Jacob for a statute, to Israel for an everlasting covenant.”

1 Chronicles 16:13-18 refers to Israel, children of Jacob and His chosen ones and notes “HaShem our G-d…Remember His covenant for ever…The covenant which He made with Abraham, and His oath unto Isaac; And He established it unto Jacob for a statute, to Israel for an everlasting covenant,” etc.

Now, here is what Jews for Judaism did not bother telling you and what you thus, do not know, do not point out, etc. The Tanakh defines its own terms and they do not always mean something simple, neat and tidy such as “everlasting covenant” which, as you will see via factual evidence, ends up meaning something to the likes of “as long as it is relevant or in place.” You will note that Leviticus 17:3-7 states that when our people killed an ox, lamb or goat they were first to bring it “unto the door of the tent of meeting, to present it as an offering unto HaShem before the tabernacle of HaShem…This shall be a statute for ever unto them throughout their generations.” However, later, in Deuteronomy 12:13-15 & 21 we were allowed to “…offer not thy burnt-offerings in every place…but in the place which HaShem shall choose…there thou shalt offer thy burnt-offerings…kill and eat flesh within all thy gates…If the place which HaShem thy God shall choose to put His name there be too far from thee.”

The first statement affirmed what you were lead to believe could only mean eternality (meaning, of course, that no Jew today, without the Temple, could possibly keep it) “for ever unto them throughout their generations” yet, it then changes.

Lastly, I am a Messianic Jew and am not only not a Southern Baptist but do not even know any Southern Baptists and so you are in error on this account as well.

For details on the issue of covenants and commandments, please see: Will the Messiah Institute New Commandments?

I recommended this article because it goes into detail regarding whether “the” covenant is eternal, will be fulfilled, modified, etc.

Next, the next segment will consider what is in a name—such as “Jesus.”

Interestingly enough, I had mentioned in the nether regions of the comments section that I was going to post a response to Quentin Smith in the near future. Well, that future was not near enough as unbeknownst to me IrishFarmer stopped gathering his potatoes long enough to post his response to Quentin Smith.

However, I, and as it turns out he, was responding to the first of Quentin Smith’s “Two Ways to Prove Atheism.” I will still post my response in the near future since we did have different takes.

Can you disprove Santa Claus? Atheism and “Santa Syndrome”

To the uninitiated such a question is no less than bizarre. However, to those involved in Christian vs. Atheist polemics it is one of the deepest of questions…in a manner of speaking.

What has come to be known as Santa Syndrome, is indicative of the fact that very many Atheists reject God at a very early, prepubescent, age and generally do so in reaction to rebelling again parents, being put off by strict religionists, etc. Essentially this results from childish emotional reactions and not intellectual conclusions. This has the unfortunate result of Atheists growing up with undeveloped and childish conceptions of God which they tend to never revise.

Examples of this are ubiquitous and can be seen in a myriad of Atheists correlating God to a sky daddy, an invisible friend, fairies and amongst many others: Santa Claus.

Now, in short, correlating God—let us specify YHVH—to a sky daddy, invisible friend, fairies, Santa Claus and even the Flying Spaghetti Monster and the Invisible Pink Unicorns is fallacious. Consider, as one mere example, that YHVH is a philosophically necessary being whilst none of the others are.

You can find a theological consideration of the Flying Spaghetti Monster and the Invisible Pink Unicorns at this link.

Some Atheists insist that the correlations hold because, for one, they cannot disprove God any more than Christians can disprove Santa Claus.

Can one disprove something? That is, can one prove a negative? Well, of course. For example, according to an ordinary definition of “foot” and “arm” one can prove that there is not a foot at the end of one’s arm: no foot exists at the end of our arm (unless you have had some unfortunate surgery snafu, that is). Yet, granted, some negatives are more difficult to deal with than others such as the viewing of material bodily appendages.

Let us break this down into the two Santas: 1) the historical personage, the legendary figure, and 2) the mythical.

In short, the historical Santa or, rather, Saint Nick (Nicholas of Myra) was known for his Christian charity and is not at issue.

It is the mythical figure upon whom is the focus and this figure’s outstanding and unusual characteristics are that he is said to 1) live in the North Pole, 2) manage a group of elves (a sweat shop?) who manufacture all Christmas toys for all who receive them worldwide, 3) possesses the ability to discern who has been naughty or nice (a styled omniscient), 4) travels at astonishing speeds so as to make deliveries to each and every household worldwide which contain, the presumably nice, kids who will receive toys and perhaps 5) fuels his physical activities, such as climbing down and up chimneys and arranging toys under Christmas trees, via a night of gorging the likes of which a competitive eater has never imagines as he consumes vast amounts of cookies and a lion’s share of milk. These appear to be the basics and enough for us to proceed.

Now, we must keep in mind that we are considering Santa Claus within the context of that which is generally promulgated about the mythical figure as is. That is to say, once we deal with the character as is it is no use and not logical to say, “Oh, well, but if we tweak this, change that and add this assertion about Santa then…” This would be a mere attempt at side stepping the conclusion via artificially plumping up the issue at hand.

Let us note that even this mythical Santa is not thought to be anything but human. That is, he is not a divine being, does not possess supernatural abilities (withstanding travels and movements at astonishing speeds not withstanding).

Tantamount to the other mythical figures with whom some Atheists correlate God, Santa is not a philosophically necessary being. This means that nothing is contingent upon his existence: not the universe, not life, not anything…as we shall see.

A human being is a contingent being as thus cannot have created the universe or life. In fact, a living being such as Santa is contingent upon his parents. In turn, his parents are contingent upon their parents. Their parents upon their parents and so on back through time. However, this is not an infinite regress as it leads to a non-contingent being: a being for whom life is intrinsic and not extrinsic, it is ontologically a part of its very nature, essence and being and not something which was bequeathed upon it.

1) Lives in the North Pole.

We have explored the North Pole via satellite imagery and on the ground expeditions and have not uncovered any evidence of Santa’s residence or factory like instillation.

2) Manage a group of elves who manufacture all Christmas toys for all who receive them worldwide.

The various toys can be traced back to their place of origin which turns out to be various factories around the world. Moreover, they are proved to be the product of human designers, manufacturers, etc.

3) Posses the ability to discern who has been naughty or nice.

Sadly, in our era of self-esteem at all costs there are no naughty kids. Also, as per the next point, any such determination is not made by, nor reported to, Santa.

4) Travels at astonishing speeds so as to make deliveries to each and every household worldwide…

Santa actually does not possess any powers of super-speed flight as it is his reindeer who are said to be able to travel thusly. While we have observed many herds of reindeer, none have been seen to travel faster than normal—and none have a nose so bright so as to guide a sleigh at night.

Despite admittedly falsified radar tracking, no object, such as a very fast sleigh has been tracked on radar. Moreover, it has been proven that it is children’s parents who purchase toys and place them under trees—which brings us to the next point.

5) Fuels his physical activities…via a night of gorging [on] vast amounts of cookies and….milk.

Parents are the ones who consume the cookies and milk.

While the mythical Santa’s origins are traced back to the historical figure his mythos and especially his personal fashion is traced back to an advertising campaign by Coca Cola who introduced the rotund, mostly red attired character in 1931 AD.

It has been proven that mere human administrated corporations and parents are responsible for each and every activity attributed to Santa. Manufactures produce toys, parents purchase toys, parents place toys under trees and consume the cookies and milk. Parents play upon their children’s desire of toys by appealing to Santa’s ability to discern their status of naughty or nice.

Moreover, there certain claims about Santa that would be simple to verify such as his residence and travels which not only have not been verified but, as just stated, are explained via the activities of humans.

One reason that some fallaciously correlate Santa and God is that they likewise claim that there are certain claims about God which not only have not been verified but are explained via the activities of humans (such as in miracle hoaxes) or the mechanical working of nature. However, this is one reason why we must distinguish generic “G,” “o,” “d” from YHVH. Because some theologies may very well have been discredited such as those which claim that there is no material realm but all is a delusion, those who claim that there are gods who specifically and actively make rain, cause the growth of trees or what have you.

However, YHVH is a transcendent personal being who exists outside, beyond and with no reliance upon the material realm. This rational being created a rational material realm wherein, in a linear manner, cause is followed by effect—this was the very foundation upon which Judeo-Christians established the scientific method. Moreover, supernaturalism is the default position as life, the universe, nature cannot account for themselves.

In short, Santa has been investigated and found to be a myth via observation, reproducible experimentation and finding causes which effect that which he claims to do. However, even though YHVH has been investigated, He is found to be not be mythical but is a philosophically necessary being who having brought about time, space and matter is timelss or eternal, spaceless or omnipresent and immaterial or spirit. Moreover, He is seen to possess characteristic of personhood such as volition in having brought about a plan. Lastly, life, the universe and everything is based upon information and the only known source of information is mind and it is this mind which we call YHVH.

In the beginning [time] God [a preexisting, transcendent being] created [volitionally infused with information and energy] the heavens [space] and the earth [matter].

Think about how many people grow up disillusioned about God due to the emotional havoc caused by finding out that Santa is not real and that their parent lied to them about it.

Think about how Santa is said to takes flight into the heavens, reside in the north and possessed godlike characteristics.

Now, consider what Satan stated as recorded in Isaiah 14:1-13:

I will ascend into heaven,

I will exalt my throne above the stars of God;

I will also sit on the mount of the congregation on the farthest sides of the north;

I will ascend above the heights of the clouds,

I will be like the Most High.

Santa stands discredited whilst YHVH stands accredited.

A Rabbi on are Messianic Jews Jewish?

We continue, from part 1, part 2, part 3, part 4, part 5, part 6, considering pop-research on the issue of the historical Jesus and Jesus mythicism with regards to some Atheists who have taken to the utterly radical view that Jesus never even existed.

The Jewish person lorasinger decided to, yet again, copy and paste from a Rabbinic Talmudic polemic source. As we have seen time and time again this means that, as we shall see, they get it wrong again. This time it was Rabbi Stuart Federow’s site whatjewsbelieve.org:

“IN SHORT… Many people — some but not all Christians, and some Jews as well — erroneously believe that just as one can be Black and Christian, just as one can be Oriental and Christian, one can also be Jewish and Christian. This is not true. The Jews are not a race. There is no genetic code passed from either mother or father to the child that makes that child a Jew. Genetics might indicate that ones ancestors were Jews, but that does not, in fact, make one a Jew. Even if all, or some, of the genetic code in a child proved to be of Jewish origin, that would not make the child a Jew. Jewish law determines who is a Jew, and Jewish law is quite clear. If a person’s mother is a Jew, and that person has not converted to another faith and wishes to identify solely as a Jew, then that person is considered fully Jewish. In addition, a convert to Judaism is fully Jewish. Although one cannot convert to become a member of a race (for example one cannot convert to become an Asian or an African-American), one can convert to become a Jew. If someone who is Asian or African-American converts to Judaism, that person obviously remains an Asian or an African-American, and at the same time is a Jew. However, if one converts from Judaism to another faith, one is no longer a Jew.”

One can be a Catholic of Jewish origin, or an Anglican of Jewish origin, but he is no longer a Jew.

This is a case of a great sounding explanation that is simply inaccurate thus, I replied with the following:

Well friend, I never converted from anything to anything: I am a Jew and am now following Judaism’s new covenant as per the Messiah. Also, note that in making the statement you and whatjewsbelieve.org made, you both violated the Halakah, the Talmud and contradicted the conclusions of various Jewish scholars and academic sources such as the Encyclopedia Judaica. I have attempted to elucidate that your Rabbinic Talmudic polemics will continue resulting in you being mistaken even when you think that you have found a clever to continue stating that which is factually and demonstrably in error.

I am sure that you noticed that within my article that I referenced to you that there is a clear distinction between personal Jewish opinion, on the one hand, and scholarly academic Jewish elucidation of Judaism’s law, on the other hand: Jewish and Christian? Is Messianic Judaism Possible?

In the meantime, I decided to contact Rabbi Stuart Federow in order to ask:

…because of something that I read within the Encyclopedia Judaica 3:211 which states:

“In Jewish religious law, it is technically impossible for a Jew (born to a Jewish mother or properly converted to Judaism) to change his religion. Even though a Jew undergoes the rites of admission to another religious faith and formally renounces the Jewish religion he remains—as far as the Halakah is concerned—a Jew, albeit a sinner (Sanh. 44a)…For the born Jew, Judaism is not a matter of choice…in the technical halakhic sense, apostasy is impossible.”

I was hoping for your assistance in explaining to my friend why there is a difference of opinion on this between your article and the encyclopedia.

Now, note carefully that the Rabbi’s site:

…is for Jews and non-Jews who want to learn more about Jewish beliefs, or have questions about how Hebrew Scripture has informed and shaped Jewish belief and practice throughout the ages…explain the Biblical foundations of Jewish belief, and clarify the differences between Jewish theology and Christian theology, using specific Biblical passages. Jewish beliefs concerning life, death, sin, forgiveness, and atonement are quite different from Christian beliefs. On this website you will learn how and why, and in so doing, learn about genuine Judaism.

Well, you will not learn about “genuine Judaism” therein but will rather learn Rabbinic Talmudic Judaism that is not based on the Tanakh but on polemics, on how to manipulate facts towards one’s own ends—as we shall see below.

My email to the Rabbi resulted in an auto reply which stated:

sorry, but i am suspending all email and responses. I am just tired of receiving emails from all the “Good Christians” who try to engage me in a debate, not because they are truly interested in What Jews Believe, but because they want to use me to sharpen their debating skills, or who actually attempt to convert me(!). The arrogance is overwhelming, and i am just tired of it. Maybe ill get back to it in a few months….. maybe……[sic.]

Note that he seems to style himself a mind reader of sorts as he put out a site which seeks to prove that Christianity is wrong and then is “tired of receiving emails” which appear to be from people attempting to get at facts. He pretends to know why “the ‘Good Christians’” contact him.

Well, I thought that it would obviously come to nothing but then to my surprise, he did write back with the following:

There is a difference simply because there are different halachic rulings from different rabbis. Furthermore, many rabbis write articles and make statements on this issue, without really studying all of the sources. In the article I wrote, I cited Plenty of rabbis’ Responsas that said what I concluded, rabbis who are a lot more respected among the Orthodox than am I, like Rabbi Aryeh Kaplan in his book, The Real Messiah.[sic.]

Well, as aforementioned within this series, I have read and have written about the referenced book and it is another piece of Rabbinic Talmudic polemics, see my article Rabbi Aryeh Kaplan’s Anti-Missionary Assertions.

My reply to the Rabbi was:

Thank you so very much for taking the time to reply as based on your auto-response email, with which I am empathetic, I did not expect one.
In that case, since there is a difference simply because there are different halachic rulings from different rabbis, it seems that a better approach would be to state that outright and then provide a sampling of the different halachic rulings as this would be a better vehicle for education rather than choosing one view and putting forth as being the only one.

Conversely to the Rabbi’s tactic, if you read the article which I referenced to lorasigner you will note that I consider various sides of this issue and quote various Rabbis and other Jewish scholars, see Jewish and Christian? Is Messianic Judaism Possible?

Trinity

Here are, quite fittingly, three videos which elucidate the doctrine of the Trinity…and you have just found out, all of the videos start playing at the same time and automatically. Sorry, but I do not know how to change that setting. Just pause two of them as you watch the other ;o)

For details on this doctrine, including biblical citations and cult related heresies, see:
