On the Life of Moses

Herein we continue, from part 1, part 2, providing quotations and citations on Angels from Philo of Alexandria (20 BC-50 AD). The fuller complete result consists of quotations of those sections within the text that refer to Angels, Cherubim, Seraphim, Devil, Satan, demons, serpent and dragon. The point is not to elucidate these references but to provide relevant partial quotations and citations.

Deutero Canonical

Herein we continue, from part 1, part 2, part 3, considering info on the Devil from Aurelius Ambrosius aka St. Ambrose bishop of Milan (340-397 AD). The fuller complete result consists of quotations of those sections within the text that refer to Angels, Cherubim, Seraphim, Devil, Satan, demons, serpent and dragon.

Clifton A. Emahiser’s special notice to all who deny two seedline #6, part 2 of 2

I herein conclude considering Clifton A. Emahiser’s Special Notice To All Who Deny Two Seedline, #6 (he has written a couple dozen of these). Note that I previously wrote Clifton A. Emahiser’s “Two Seedline” racism part 1 and part 2.

clifton20a-20emahiser-9666823
Clifton A. Emahiser

Emahiser specifically takes issue with Jack Mohr’s (see part 1) denial that the word fruit, from Genesis 3, does not have allow for “any sexual interpretation…unless your mind is sexually oriented…Certainly the SEEDLINERS SEE SEX IN THIS PASSAGE. Shows you where their mind is, doesn’t it?” This gets into the issue of the fact that in any language a word can mean more than one thing. Emahiser points out that as per Gesenius’ Hebrew-Chaldee Lexicon the term fruit includes a definition of offspring. Indeed, but how does this help Emahiser? Is he changing gears and claiming that Eve had sex with offspring (of who or what) since she partook of fruit?

We actually get a window in to Emahiser study methodology when he writes, “I were to use key words in the Old Testament and run them in the search mode of my copy of the Talmud on CD-R in my computer, no doubt, I could come up with at least 500 examples of truth contained within these writings.” Well, key words are only correlated by spelling but are isolated as per context. You simply cannot look at words in different texts and conclude that the text refer to the same subjects because the same words are employed. The manner whereby to determine meaning is context, context, context. The point is that cherry picking and choosing definitions does not determine meaning but context does.

For those who are interested, I dealt with the terms tree, fruit, eat, etc. within the article
Disambiguating the serpent seedline of Satan theory in Genesis 3, part 1.

Interestingly enough, Emahiser pokes fun at Mohr since Mohr “believes that the tree of life and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil were wooden trees; that the serpent was an ordinary snake and the fruit was simply some kind of fruit from some fruit tree. Thus, Jack Mohr, in implying this, makes the tree of life (the Messiah) a wooden tree.”
In other words, Emahiser believes that the tree of life was not a wooden tree but was Jesus the Messiah. Now, he also believes that references to Eve eating of the fruit of the forbidden tree was a sexual act since the tree is really Satan (and, apparently, the serpent is also Satan). Of course, this also means that Adam had sex with Satan as he too partook. Yet, moreover, as per Genesis 2 Adam and Eve also had sex with Jesus and many others since they were allowed to eat of the fruit of every tree in the garden except for one.

Oddly, Clifton A. Emahiser besmirches Jack Mohr as “he does not appear to be of pure Israelite stock” which means White Aryan. He also takes issue with Mohr who “points a finger at James E. Wise” and while “It seems it is quite all right for the anti-seedliners to name names” he informs us that “it is anathema for the Two Seedliners.”
So Emahiser points a finger at Mohr and thus name names and then condemns Mohr for pointing fingers and naming names—go figure. It is also fascinating that “it is anathema for the Two Seedliners” to name names (which means that Emahiser is anathematized) as this proves how unbiblical they are, the Bible teaches:

But if we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel to you than what we have preached to you, let him be accursed. As we have said before, so now I say again, if anyone preaches any other gospel to you than what you have received, let him be accursed (Galatians 1:8-9).

Now I urge you, brethren, note those who cause divisions and offenses, contrary to the doctrine which you learned, and avoid them (Romans 16:17).

And their messages will spread like cancer. Hymenaus and Philetus are of this sort (2nd Timothy 2:17).

Alexander the coppersmith did me much harm. May the Lord repay him according to his works (2nd Timothy 4:14).

I wrote to you in my epistle no to keep company with sexually immoral people. Yet I certainly did not mean with the sexually immoral people of this world, or with the covetous, or extortioners, or idolaters, since then you would need to go out of the world. But now I have written to you not to keep company with anyone named a brother, who is sexually immoral, or covetous, or an idolater, or a reviler, or a drunkard, or an extortioner; not even to eat with such a person. For what have I to do with judging those also who are outside? Do you not judge those who are inside? But those who are outside God judges. Therefore put away from yourselves the evil person (1st Corinthians 5:9-13).

Clifton A. Emahiser then references 2 Corinthians 11:3 which states:

But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ.

He focuses on the term “beguiled” and notes, “The Thayer Greek-English Lexicon takes us to an unusual scripture on the Greek word 1818 in the Apocrypha, History of Susanna, v. 56 which reads: ‘So he put him aside and commanded to bring the other, and said unto him, O thou seed of Chanaan [Canaan], and not of Juda, beauty hath deceived [#1818 beguiled] thee, and lust hath perverted thine heart.’ [Note #1818: Same as for Eve.]
He then elucidates that the tale is about “a woman of great beauty who lived with her wealthy husband Joakin…where Susanna strolled and bathed herself…two Canaanite-Jew elders inflamed with desire for Susanna plotted among themselves to force her affections…Susanna chose to be unjustly accused rather than submit…these Canaanite-Jews gave their false testimony” but “Their contradictory answers” to the court “betrayed their treachery,” etc.

Again and again and again when I write about the serpent seed of Satan theory I have to emphasize that words have more than one meaning and in this case we can see how the New Testament’s greater context employs the term exapataō. Let us see if it has any sexual connotations:

Romans 7:11, “For sin, taking occasion by the commandment, exapataō [sexual connotations] me, and by it slew me.

Romans 16:18, “For they that are such serve not our Lord Jesus Christ, but their own belly; and by good words and fair speeches exapataō [sexual connotations] the hearts of the simple.”

1 Corinthians 3:18, “Exapataō [sexual connotations] no man exapataō [sexual connotations] himself. If any man among you seemeth to be wise in this world, let him become a fool, that he may be wise.”

2 Corinthians 11:3, “But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent exapataō [sexual connotations] Eve through his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ.”

2 Thessalonians 2:3, “Exapataō [sexual connotations] no man exapataō [sexual connotations] you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;”

Romans 16:18 refers to words and speeches that are used to exapataō the hearts. 1 Corinthians 3:18 has references to exapataō followed by a reference to wisdom and foolishness. 2 Thessalonians 2:3 has exapataō in reference to falling away and with v. 2 referring to being “shaken in mind” being “troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us.”

Thus, 2 Corinthians 11:3 as nothing to do with sexual connotations since Eve knew that God had stated, “Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die” but the manner in which Satan exapataō her was to tell her “Ye shall not surely die” and if the greater context is not enough for you then consider the immediate context which is that “so your minds” minds and not bodies, “should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ.” It was obviously a reference to Satan’s deception both in Genesis and 2 Corinthians.

Thus, overall Clifton A. Emahiser put on a clinic as to how one can concoct false teaching via illogic, key word searches, conveniently quoting texts partially, etc., etc., etc.

Angels in Flavius Josephus’ Antiquities of the Jews & Wars of the Jews

Herein we prove quotations and citations on Angels from Flavius Josephus (37 AD-100 AD). The fuller complete result consists of quotations of those sections within the text that refer to Angels, Cherubim, Seraphim, Devil, Satan, demons, serpent and dragon. The point is not to elucidate these references but to provide relevant partial quotations and citations. See my section on Angels here, Cherubim and Seraphim here, Satan here and Demons here.

Antiquities of the Jews Preface

3:1 For many Angels of God accompanied with women, and begat sons that proved unjust, and despisers of all that was good, on account of the confidence they had in their own strength; for the tradition is, that these men did what resembled the acts of those whom the Grecians call giants.

A footnote after the word “Angels” states, “This notion, that the fallen Angels were, in some sense, the fathers of the old giants, was the constant opinion of antiquity.”

10:4 Now a Divine Angel met her [Hagar], as she was going forward in the wilderness.

11:2-3 When God had thus resolved concerning the Sodomites, Abraham, as he sat by the oak of Mambre, at the door of his tent, saw three Angels; and thinking them to be strangers…Then they concealed themselves no longer, but declared that they were Angels of God; and that one of them was sent to inform them about the child, and two of the overthrow of Sodom…And the Angels came to the city of the Sodomites.

12:3 But a Divine Angel came to her [Hagar], and told her of a fountain hard by, and bid her take care, and bring up the child, because she should be very happy by the preservation of Ismael.

20:1-2 NOW as Jacob was proceeding on his journey to the land of Canaan, Angels appeared to him, and suggested to him good hope of his future condition; and that place he named the Camp of God…Jacob was left behind; and meeting with an Angel, he wrestled with him, the Angel beginning the struggle: but he prevailed over the Angel…he had overcome a divine Angel, and to esteem the victory as a sign of great blessings that should come to him…He also commanded him to be called Israel, which in the Hebrew tongue signifies one that struggled with the divine Angel. These promises were made at the prayer of Jacob; for when he perceived him to be the Angel of God, he desired he would signify to him what should befall him hereafter. And when the Angel had said what is before related, he disappeared.

Book IV
6:3 Now Balsam did not imagine that God gave this injunction in order to deceive him, so he went along with the ambassadors; but when the divine Angel met him in the way…the Angel’s continuing to distress her [the donkey]…the Angel plainly appeared to him.

Book V
8:2-3 …an apparition was seen by her [Samson’s mother]: it was an Angel of God, and resembled a young man beautiful and tall…So the Angel, when he had delivered that message, went his way, his coming having been by the will of God. Now the wife informed her husband when he came home of what the Angel had said…God to send the Angel again, that he might be seen by her husband. So the Angel came again by the favor of God…She desired the Angel to stay so long till she might bring her husband; and that request being granted, she goes to call Manoah. When he saw the Angel he was not yet free from suspicion…When all was ready, the Angel enjoined him to set the loaves and the flesh…the Angel ascended openly, in their sight, up to heaven, by means of the smoke, as by a vehicle.

Book XV
5:3 And for ourselves, we have learned from God the most excellent of our doctrines, and the most holy part of our law, by Angels or ambassadors; for this name brings God to the knowledge of mankind, and is sufficient to reconcile enemies one to another.

Book VII
13:3 Nay, the Angel stretched out his hand over Jerusalem, as sending this terrible judgment upon it…the king looked up into the air, and saw the Angel carried along thereby into Jerusalem, with his sword drawn.

The Wars of the Jews or the History of the Destruction of Jerusalem Book II

8:7 …he swears to communicate their doctrines to no one any otherwise than as he received them himself; that he will abstain from robbery, and will equally preserve the books belonging to their sect, and the names of the Angels [or messengers]. These are the oaths by which they secure their proselytes to themselves.

16:4 …call to witness your sanctuary, and the holy Angels of God, and this country common to us all.

Book V
9:4 Were not those hands lifted up to God in prayers, without meddling with their arms, when an Angel of God destroyed that prodigious army in one night?

In the next segment, we will consider Josephus on Cherubim and Serpents.

4 Esdras

Herein we continued, from part 1, a series regarding paranormal entities in text generally termed the Apocrypha, Deutero Canonical, Pseudepigrapha, Gnostic Texts, etc. (see my article on the Apocrypha here). The quotations are of those sections within the text that refer to Angels, Cherubim, Seraphim, Devil, Satan, demons, serpent and dragon.

E.W. Bullinger

As has been elucidated in various articles found with the Serpent Seed category: the Bible does speak the seed of the serpent and the seed of the woman. Yet, it does not, in any way, relate seed of the serpent to Cain being the result of Eve having sex with Satan.

In fact, since the serpent seed of Satan theory is not biblical, promulgators, such as those listed below, have different ideas as to who the seedlines / bloodlines are.

Demons in Preaching of Peter, Origen and Sibylline Oracles

Herein we conclude, from part 1, part 2, part 3, part 4, part 5, part 6, considering Demons within texts generally termed the Apocrypha, Deutero Canonical, Pseudepigrapha, Gnostic Texts, etc. (see my article on the Apocrypha here). The fuller complete result consists of quotations of those sections within the text that refer to Angels, Cherubim, Seraphim, Devil, Satan, demons, serpent and dragon. Demons in Preaching of Peter, Origen and Sibylline Oracles.

Preaching of Peter – 100-150 AD
M.R. James’ The Apocryphal New Testament (Oxford: Clarendon Press 1924 AD) which contains The Preaching of Peter includes a note which states, “There are certain other fragments of a ‘Teaching of Peter’ which may be another name for the Preaching. Opinion is divided. Probably the first, from Origen, is from the Preaching. The others are of a different complexion”:

Origen on First Principles i, prologue 8. But if any would produce to us from that book which is called The Doctrine of Peter, the passage where the Saviour is represented as saying (lit. seems to say) to the disciples: I am not a bodiless spirit (demon): he must be answered in the first place that that book is not reckoned among the books of the church: (and then) it must be shown that the writing is neither by Peter nor by any one else who was inspired by the spirit of God.

Sibylline Oracles – 80-250 AD
Book I:430 The deaf shall hearken, and the dumb shall speak. Demons shall he drive out, and of the dead there shall be an uprising.

Book III:405-410 …thou then look upon thy land full of the dead, some of them fallen by war and by the demon of all violence, famine and plague, and some by barbarous foes.

Book VIII:55-60 What god shall save thee, whether wrought of gold or stone or brass? Or then where thy decrees of senate? Where shall be the race of Rhea, of Cronus, or of Zeus, and of all those whom thou didst worship, demons without life, Images of the worn-out dead.

510-520 All useful, with the smell of sacrifice filling the feast, as if for their own dead. For they [their?] flesh and bones full of marrow burn offering on altars, and they pour out blood to demons, and they kindle lights to me the giver of light, and as to a god that thirsts do mortals drunken pour out wine for nought to idols that can give no aid.
I have no need of your burnt offerings, nor your libations, nor polluted smoke, nor blood most hateful. For in memory of kings and tyrants they will do these things unto dead demons, as to heavenly beings, performing service godless and destructive. And godless they their images call gods.

In the next segment, we will begin a section on paranormal entities in the Targumim.

Demons in Letters of Herod and Pilate, Connecting Roman History with the Death of Christ at Jerusalem, Gospel of Pseudo-Matthew aka Gospel of the Birth of Mary, Arabic Gospel of the Infancy of the Saviour and Book of Jubilees

Letters of Herod and Pilate, Connecting Roman History with the Death of Christ at Jerusalem – 150-255 AD
Those men, therefore, not enduring to be so harassed by demons, removed the vessel of cursing from them and sent it to be buried in the territory of Losania.

Gospel of Pseudo-Matthew aka Gospel of the Birth of Mary – 600 to 625 AD
26 Then one of those children, a son of the devil, moved with envy, shut the passages which supplied the pools with water, and overthrew what Jesus had built up.

Arabic Gospel of the Infancy of the Saviour
10 This priest had a son, three years old, beset by several demons; and he made many speeches and utterances; and when the demons seized him, he tore his clothes, and remained naked, and threw stones at the people.

11 …the demons, fleeing in the shape of ravens and serpents, began to go forth out of his mouth…When the demons had thrown me on the ground, I went into the hospital…the demons left me and fled.

14 Thereafter they came into another city, where there was a demoniac woman whom Satan, accursed and rebellious, had beset, when on one occasion she had gone out by night for water.

Book of Jubilees – 2nd century BC
1:11-12 And they will make to themselves high places and groves and graven images, and they will worship, each his own (graven image), so as to go astray, and they will sacrifice their children to demons, and to all the works of the error of their hearts.

7:27-28 For I see, and behold the demons have begun (their) seductions against you and against your children and now I fear on your behalf, that after my death ye will shed the blood of men upon the Earth, 28 and that ye, too, will be destroyed from the face of the Earth.

10:1-3 And in the third week of this jubilee the unclean demons began to lead astray the children of the sons of Noah, and to make to err and destroy them. And the sons of Noah came to Noah their father, and they told him concerning the demons which were leading astray and blinding and slaying his sons’ sons.

In the next segment, we will consider Baruch, 4 Maccabees, Tobit and Avenging of the Saviour.
