Comedy Central Compliments Christianity

With regards to Islam and Christianity, Muhammad and Jesus; Comedy Central end up complimenting Christianity.

Comedy Central is not a non-prophet organization—it only ignores some prophets.

Comedy Central…is developing an animated show titled “JC.” As in, Jesus Christ. As in, an animated show about Christ as “regular guy” — just a dude who moves to New York to escape the shadow of his “powerful but apathetic father.” In other words: Don’t expect the show’s title character to be shrouded in black “Censored!” bars or quasi-depicted in a bear suit — as occurred last month when Comedy Central’s show “South Park” toyed with attempts to satirize Muhammad. The network is again signaling that it’s comfortable with satirizing some religions’ prophets through cartoon, but not others…

Comedy Central itself, however, last month appeared uncomfortable with religious controversy and talk of violence against “South Park’s” creators, Matt Stone and Trey Parker, from the New York-based Islamic group Revolution Muslim….Stone and Parker said Comedy Central censored attempts to depict Muhammad and edited a speech about intimidation.1

Meanwhile, Molly Norris drew a Muhammad related cartoon “dedicated” to Stone and Parker which was the launching pad for the “Everybody Draw Mohammed Day” which is due to take place on May 20, 2010 AD. Yet, the whole controversy about the controversy centered around a “New York-based Islamic group Revolution Muslim which “posted on its website an image of a fatally stabbed Dutch director Theo Van Gogh (and a noted critic of Islam) next to the caption: ‘Have Matt Stone And Trey Parker Forgotten This?’”2
Thus, Molly Norris wants no part in the cartoon that she drew or the coming “Everybody Draw Mohammed Day,” “I made a cartoon that went viral but [this campaign] isn’t really my thing…Other folks have taken it over.”

Overall and the bottom line of my writing on this issue is that with Comedy Central’s plans to depict Jesus and God the Father in a disparaging light—as they have done all along—they are complimenting Jesus, Christianity and Christians.

After all, what does Comedy Central fear from spitting in the face of Jesus, God the Father, Christianity and Christians? Perhaps reactions as strong as, “Well, I just won’t watch it,” or, “I will pray for them.”

As Richard Dawkins stated it:

There are no Christians, as far as I know, blowing up buildings. I am not aware of any Christian suicide bombers. I am not aware of any major Christian denomination that believes the penalty for apostasy is death.

I have mixed feelings about the decline of Christianity, in so far as Christianity might be a bulwark against something worse.3

Thus, Comedy Central I say, “You are quite welcome. Please repent and meet the real Jesus whose true followers you do not fear. We pray for you and love you very much.”
