Woody Harrelson says Bible is just a document to control people

In 2009 AD actor Woody Harrelson stated:

I was getting into theology and studying the roots of the Bible, but then I started to discover the man-made nature of it. I started seeing things that made me ask, “Is God really speaking through this instrument?”…

My eyes opened to the reality of the Bible being just a document to control people. At the time I was a real mama’s boy and deeply mesmerized by the church.

As is the case with very many people, particularly Atheists, the rejection of YHVH, rejection of the Bible, rejection of Christianity is portrayed as having come about as a result of an honest intellectual pursuit.

However, just as often as such a claim is made a little actually intellectualizing revels that the supposed intellectual pursuit is a smoke screen, a façade, a charade which hides what simply amounts to a purposeful rejection of and rebellion again YHVH.

Note the fact that, Woody Harrelson made the statement to Playboy magazine and you begin to see that one thing lead to another: rejection of YHVH and embracing immorality (by the way no, in the case of the above quote this writer did not, repeat, did not consult primary source material—capiche? It was found on Wikipedia). He has admitted to being a sex addict.

Now, the quote is very telling and not in the way in which he may have thought that it was very telling.

If you know something about Woody Harrelson and something about the psychology of Atheists then you got the picture already.

This is not to assert that Harrelson is, consciously, an Atheist but that the same psychology, the same rebellion, applies.

GQ magazine asked him:

GQ: Do you consider yourself to be a Christian?

Woody Harrelson: No. I have a strong spiritual life. I can’t say that I have faith that Jesus is my Savior, but I look at Jesus in the same way that I look at, you know, Mohammed. He was giving everyone the goods. So was Gandhi. And to me I think it’s this thing of everyone wanting to make Jesus the Son of God and Jesus the only way to God that is the thing that no longer makes me want to be a Christian.

GQ: You meditate, right?

Woody Harrelson: I’m not always great at doing it, but I did it today.  It’s hit and miss. Yoga and meditation, I am trying to make sure that I do that every day.

GQ: I talked to Clint Eastwood a couple years ago—he meditates twice a day.

Woody Harrelson: That’s good to hear. You know he’s… That guy, I’d love to meet him.

So he is spiritual, which is a catch all term that therefore means nothing at all, and tries to meditate and do Yoga (oh, you thought that Yoga was just about stretching—see my posts on the issue here

Note that absolute freedom corrupts absolutely and so people need to be controlled; do they not? We control ourselves, family members control each other, there are laws to control societies, etc. and there is nothing wrong with that. No question about it that control can be oppressive and malicious but it can provide safe boundaries in which to life safely and can be benevolent.

Now, he “was a real mama’s boy” and there is good reason for that—or, bad reason. Also from Wikipedia:

Harrelson’s father, who was a contract killer, was arrested for the killing of Federal Judge John H. Wood, Jr. by rifle fire in 1979 in San Antonio. His father was convicted and eventually died during his life sentence in United States Penitentiary Administrative Maximum Facility.

Also note the following (Susan Donaldson James, “Natural-Born Killer: Woody Harrelson’s Father Infused Actor’s Movie Career,” ABC News, March 22, 2007 AD):

Charles Harrelson had been prosecuted four times in three murders and was serving two life sentences. He claimed he had been involved in the assassination of John F. Kennedy.

It was Woody’s father, Charles Voyde Harrelson, who, in actual real life, stated that he was a natural born killer. Woody later stared in a movie by that name. Also, by the way (see Frontline’s Minds, Morals & Movies, April 13, 2012 AD):

After being arrested for murdering an eighty-two-year old man, Christopher Smith (18 years old) shouted at the TV cameras: “I’m a natural born killer!” echoing the words of actor Woody Harrelson in the movie “Natural Born Killers.”

Woody “was a real mama’s boy” because he was only 7 years old when his father was incarcerated. Professor of Psychology Paul Vitz conducted research on history’s most well known Atheists and discovered that all of them had fathers who were in some or another form and for some or another reason absentee. Their fathers may have passed away while their children were very young, they may have abandoned their families, in some cases they were just weak pushovers, etc. For some details see Natural born atheist.

Woody Harrelson fits the bill perfectly: a young boy who’s father is absent and who ends up rejecting YHVH—and turning to real life drug use and portraying every conceivable immorality on screen (as if Hollywood movies are not made to control people).

Such personages end up taking out their sadness about, frustration with or even hatred of their fathers on YHVH. They reject their father, in whatever form and to whatever degree, and so they reject YHVH the Father.

Psychotherapist Dr. Jenn Berman:

“Woody’s father led a lifestyle that impacted his morals, values and emotional abilities,” she said. “There is no way he wasn’t affected by that. In childhood a parent has to make you feel safe, and love is the basis for all sense of self.”
