Transhuman Hollywood: virtual-cyber-techno theology in Mindwarp movie

The 1992 AD movie Mindwarp aka Brain Slasher was directed by Steve Barnett and stars Bruce Campbell, Angus Scrimm, Marta Martin aka Marta Alicia, Elizabeth Kent, Wendy Sandow, et al.
It is a pretty typical 90’s post-apocalyptic, hole in the ozone layer, wastelands, radiation, cannibals, etc. and is overall not worth watching.

However, the Transhumanism aspect is interesting (which accounts for about 5 minutes of the movie). Essentially, the elites live within their own society in seclusion, indoors, etc. and spend their days hooked up to a virtual realit y system called Infinisynth. Marta Martin/Alicia’s character Judy want to experience something real and is sent into the wastelands to deal with the mutant cannibals where she meets the Bruce Campbell character Stover who is one of the normal people who got left behind to fend for himself.

In any case, the following dialogue was very telling of the direction in which Transhumanism is going:

Judy: I’ve never seen a real book before.

Stover: This is the Bible.

Judy: I’ve heard of it, but who needs Bibles in heaven.

Stover: Then what do you believe in; have you no hope for eternity?

Judy: If you want eternity Infinisynth can give it to you. It’s just a sensation. If you wanna shake the hand of god, you do it. It’s a program.

So, there you have it. Naturalism and/or materialism and/or reductionism and/or scientism, etc. assets, without proof, that “spiritual” or “religious” experiences are just brain fizz and so if people really want to experience it there is no need to meditate for years, pray, etc. but simply interact with technology.

In fact, even Richard Dawkins tried on Michael Persinger’s “Koren Helmet” aka “God Helmet”—although it did not work on him as you can see in the video here.
