The question is posed within the midst of various claims that she is doing that which is very well known that personages such as herself do; scamming people at their most vulnerable.
You know you are in trouble when the likes of Howard Stern calls you out as “not a psychic.” This was prompted by his request to have her on his radio show and her request to have 45 minutes of alone time with a studio audience. This, of course, means that Theresa Caputo was attempting to get followers by riding on the back of Stern; he provides the fresh meat and she devours it.
Howard Stern also noted:
I’m pretty skeptical about this ‘Long Island Medium’ stuff. There’s a lot you can say to a room of 300 people…Somebody here has ashes of a loved one, there’s a pretty good chance somebody has a piece of jewelry with some ashes in it. People so want to believe in things, but I want to see actual proof.
This latest psychic related scandal was kicked off by an unidentified person who got a reading from Theresa Caputo noted what was reported as “how brisk and cold Caputo was to her, in addition to getting several ‘insights’ wrong. She left feeling very unimpressed and ‘totally exhausted’ by the experience and stated, “I think Theresa’s a phony. I don’t think she really gives a **** about the people she meets. It’s all for the cameras.”
Indeed, unless you follow Theresa Caputo from appearance to appearance just what do you know about her? That which is televised and that, here is the key, is not raw footage. This means that because the show is based on her success as a psychic, the footage is carefully edited so as to highlight her successes. This is even though the discerning person can see how she is fishing for info, noting the rate of fails versus hits, etc.
Let us begin, at the beginning as we have reported on Theresa Caputo before, see:

First and foremost, Theresa Caputo DOES NOT, repeat, DOES NOT, claim to be in contact with the spirits of deceased humans. Listen to her and you will discern that she always speaks in the singular of her communication with spirit and not spirits.
She has stated “I began seeing spirit [singular] at age 4.” To put into context how and why she would begin seeing a, singular, spirit at such a young age note two things: 1) She is “a practicing Catholic [whatever that means]. I believe in God [whatever that means and whomever “God” may be to her], I have strong faith [whatever that means and in what does she have faith?] and I attend mass every Sunday.” This means that from the earliest age, she was officially and authoritatively taught by the Catholic church that communicating with the dead is a perfectly acceptable practice. Catholics are taught to pray to Mary, “saints,” Angels, etc. even though the Bible condemns such practices (these are just a few examples):
Deuteronomy 18:10-11, “There shall not be found among you…a consulter with familiar spirits, or a wizard, or a necromancer.”
Leviticus 20:6 and 19:31, “And the soul that turneth after such as have familiar spirits, and after wizards, to go a whoring after them, I will even set my face against that soul, and will cut him off from among his people….Regard not them that have familiar spirits, neither seek after wizards, to be defiled by them: I am the LORD your God.”
Isaiah 8:19, “And when they shall say unto you, Seek unto them that have familiar spirits, and unto wizards that peep, and that mutter: should not a people seek unto their God? for the living to the dead?”

Caputo’s (singular) spirit is her familiar spirit. Note that the Bible never states to not do such things because they are bogus but became when one begins to attempt to tune into such powers, such forces…such beings, they begin to tune into you and when you begin to get attention and success from proclaiming the spirit’s message then you give them more and more legal right to take you over.
2) Theresa Caputo’s statement about her experience at 4 years of age follows directly with the statement that she “suffered from anxiety for years until my mom suggested I go to a spiritual healer/teacher.” So her Catholic family practiced prayers to the dead and what follows naturally from that is consulting with spiritual healers/teachers (whatever that is). Note that she stated that she “began seeing spirit at age 4” but after seeing the spiritual healer/teacher “I found out that I had the ability to communicate with spirit” (singular). The spiritual healer/teacher saw the potential to open her wide to possession, by any other name, and it was only then that she “found out” that she could actually communicate with her familiar spirit.
She was once asked, “Is there training for mediums?” and answered “I wouldn’t consider it training. Through spiritual awareness classes and meditation, I learned how I connect with ‘spirit’ and what they’re showing me. And through reading people, I learned what my signs and symbols mean.” Note that on her official website, they quoted the singular word “spirit” and she followed it with a plural term “they’re.” This denotes a portion of her deception; she is receiving messages from her singular familiar spirit and relating it as messages from the spirits of deceased humans.
The term familiar spirit comes from the concept of demons, by any other name, that hang around, as it were, family groups. Thus, they are familiar with all of those things that no one could possibly know as they were done and said in secret, in private, just between me and my deceased loved one, etc.
These demons communicate with Theresa Caputo’s demon who, in turn, tells her what to say to change the worldview of the person to whom she is speaking so that they will believe in her, her abilities, and her message; that after death there is no judgment, but perfect peace and hanging around waiting to tell you that the lost keys are behind the stove…or, what have you.
There is a reason why every single psychic has the very same shtick; they all speak and act the same way, they all have the very same modus operandi and the same act.
Consider the two extremes being that 1) they are in actual contact with the beyond, which is the demonic in disuse (note that Caputo has stated, “I always require ‘spirit’ to communicate with laughter” because, apparently, growls would not sell very well) and 2) they are utter frauds who learn how to “cold read” and play the hit and miss game whereby the hits are played upon and the, much more numerable miss, are bypassed since that’s just how it works.
However, the key seems to be right down the middle as was touched upon by Orson Wells. Wells stated that he learned how to “cold read” people, deriving hints from their clothing, accents, last names, etc. and began a psychic reading business as an experiment of sorts. However, he eventually found that he was able to hit upon things that were beyond his cold reading and quite the whole thing.
He had clearly run into demons who were looking for someone to dive deeper into the practice. Think about how little it would take for a different person with a different goal and different ideals to have gone with it.

Also, there are many, many, many ways to gather info about you such as when you are waiting in line to enter a psychic event what do you think that the person in front or behind you will talk to you about? Their favorite corn bread recipe? No, they will ask you about why you are there, who died, when, etc. Then, that info is fed to the psychic along with your seat number. Next, thing you know, the psychic is speaking to you about things that they could not possibly know and the rest is treachery.
