As Jon Savage put it in his contextually relevant article Smiley Face History – Good or Evil?, July 19, 2011 AD, the smiley face aka happy face is a symbol which “oscillates between Heaven and Hell” and it certain has within pop-occulture.
Occult investigator William Ramsey explained the dark side of the smiley face:

DC Comics early 1970s AD comic Prez: First Teen President wherein the smiley face was used as the face of malicious character named “Boss Smiley.”
Another comic in which it appeared was the Watchmen wherein it was worn by the character, “The Comedian” and even appears as the face on Mars. The comic was written by occulist Alan Moore (see here).

The TV show Sons of Anarchy features a character named “Happy” who is in a biker gang: this is from season 1, episode 9. Happy celebrates his 11th murder by getting an 11th happy face tattoo (see Occult Hollywood Numerology – the number 11 in movies).
