Science and transgenderism in Extant TV show

Within the Extant TV show’s episode “Cracking the Code” (S02E04 aired July 22, 2015 AD) reference is made to bad science (so called) in the form of junk DNA and transgenderism (in a subtle form).

For more background on this show, see Extant TV show thus far (season 1 recap and symbolism).

The relevant portion of the dialogues in this regard follows within the context of two characters reviewing alien and human DNA:

MOLLY: What is that board over there?

LAB TECH: Junk DNA. It’s where either the meaning of life is hidden or simply the husks of a cornstalk. Lots of meaningless strands that don’t add up to much more than God’s candy wrapper.

MOLLY: Is this communal data?

LAB TECH: Take what you want. It’s the discard wall…

MOLLY: More junk DNA?

LAB TECH: Well, one man’s trash is another man’s treasure. The work you did last night had some very novel characteristics. Chimeric in origin.

MOLLY: Chimeric? – Are you sure? – Yeah.

LAB TECH: The spores have the capacity for male and female organs.

Much as is the case with vestigial organs, junk DNA is Darwinese for, “What does that do? I dunno. Well then, it must be useless and thus, proof of evolution from lower animals which themselves resulted from a long series of happy accidents.”

Well, such things are stated for, at least, two reasons: 1) Due to simply ignorance de jour meaning that at the time of the statement we simply lacked sufficient knowledge to know better (and thus, should have withheld judgment by the way).

2) Due to knowing better but continuing to promulgate tragically and unscientifically outdated statements simply because it props up the corpse of the Darwinian theory of evolution.

It is interesting that the show specifically correlates “Junk DNA” with “God’s candy wrapper” as, for example, one of many articles from Creation Ministries International that deals with the issue of supposed junk DNA is titled, ‘Junk’ DNA: evolutionary discards or God’s tools?.
Therein, it is noted, in part:

The idea that a large portion of the genomes of eukaryotes*4 is made up of useless evolutionary remnants comes from the problem known as the ‘c-value paradox’, ‘c’ meaning the haploid* chromosomal DNA content. There is an extraordinary degree of variation in genome size between different eukaryotes, which does not correlate with organismal complexity or the numbers of genes that code for proteins. For instance, the newt Triturus cristatus has around six times as much DNA as humans, who have about 7.5 times as much as the pufferfish Fugu rubripes.5 The c-value between different frog species can differ by as much as 100-fold.6 Early DNA-RNA hybridisation* studies and recent genome sequencing results have confirmed that >90% of the DNA of vertebrates does not code for a product. Much of this variation is due to non-coding (i.e. not producing an RNA or protein product), often very simple, repeated sequences.

With the discovery that many of these sequences seemed to have arisen from mobile DNAs which are able to reproduce themselves, the selfish or parasitic DNA hypothesis was born.7,8 This said that these sequences served no function in the host organism, but were simply carried on the genome by their ability to replicate or spread copies of themselves within and even between genomes.

This is merely one of CMI’s many articles on junk DNA; you can browse for the rest here.

As for transgenderism, the alien lifeform is referred to as “spores” as this is the appearance that they have before entering a human body (a styled possession) and the spores, the aliens, the alien DNA has “the capacity for” both “male and female organs.”
