Q12 – the newly found twelfth Qumran Dead Sea Scroll cave

Hebrew University has announced that the long sought after twelfth cave, Q12, west of Qumran where the Dead Sea Scrolls were found.

Operation Scroll included personages such as archaeologist Randall Price, President of the Museum of the Bible Cary Summers, as well as Hebrew University Institute of Archaeology’s Oren Gutfeld and Ahiad Ovadia, et al.

A new find includes six ceramic jars of the sort thorough to have been designed to store scrolls. Also found were small fragments of papyrus and parchment yet, no scroll and the cave shows signs of having been looted.

This find may lead looters to come forth with their finds as they may be encouraged via the publicity to attempt to earn quite a few shekels. Also, the fragments may reveal whether the texts were biblical, community rules, etc.
