We continue considering Paul Davies’ statements about cosmology and the Bible. We now continue a side tracking segment regarding a Q&A session from Yahoo! Answers. Find this whole series here.
Here is another answer posted there:
Genesis says in the very first two sentences: ” First God made heaven & earth. The earth was without form and void, and darkness was upon the face of the deep; and the Spirit of God was moving over the face of the waters.”
That’s not creation ex nihilo, thats providing form and order to something that already existed.
Actually, there is nothing in the quote from Genesis that references God “providing form and order.” The quote states “God made heaven & earth.” “Made” is being interpreted as “providing form and order” yet, the text does not imply this. This answerer is merely assuming this, faultily inferring this, presupposing this. The rest of the quotes merely states that the “The earth was without form and void” after it was “made,” that “darkness was upon the face of the deep,” after it was “made” and that “the Spirit of God was moving over the face of the waters” after they were “made.” No “providing form and order to something that already existed” at all.
As we shall see, God did provide form and order but only after having “made” the universe out of “nothing.”
Here is another answer:
God created everything by using His energy. It isn’t that He created it out of “nothing”.
Everything came from Him.
Isaiah 40:26 Lift your eyes and look to the heavens: Who created all these? He who brings out the starry host one by one, and calls them each by name. Because of his great power and mighty strength, not one of them is missing.
Here the answerer is, rightly, bringing attention to the definition of “nothing.”
