Panos Cosmatos’ Mandy movie as reboot of Clive Barker’s Underworld/Transmutations

I previously posted a video titled Cult as “Jesus freaks” in Nicolas Cage “Mandy” movie.

Herein, I will note that I liked the movie Mandy better when it was called Clive Barker’s 1986 AD Underworld aka Transmutations.

In Underworld/Transmutations a woman, Nicole, is kidnapped by someone backed by a leather-bound-biker-looking-demonic-guy (which turns out to be a mutant).

In Mandy the girlfriend is kidnapped by someone backed by leather-bound-biker-looking-demonic-guys.

Underworld/Transmutations: Roy Bain, with whom a particular woman was formerly involved, plays the role of Cage rage-revenger who goes after her.
Mandy: the boyfriend, Red Miller, Cage rages after her.

Underworld/Transmutations: The man who gets Roy to go after her, Hugo Motherskille, states that what is done to such women is to “chop her up, and film it and show it to the psychos.”
Mandy: does not seem to have this element yet, there is a scene where one of the leather-bound-biker-looking-demonic-guys is watching porn—whilst sniffing a pile of what appears to be a huge cocaine face first (this would make Tony Montana say, “OMG!!!!”).

Underworld/Transmutations and Mandy include the concept that unmarried sex is a-okay.

Underworld/Transmutations: Roy ends up tracing her to biochemist Dr. Savary who, in turn, has developed a white powder that is used by the demonic/mutant guys and which the Dr. specifies is, amongst other things, “euphoric and powerfully hallucinogenic.”
Mandy: Red’s girlfriend is murdered but he ends up tracing her murderers to a chemist who has developed some sort of hardcore hallucinogenic used by the leather-bound-biker-looking-demonic-guys.

Underworld/Transmutations: the drug actually turns people into mutants.
Mandy: could it be that what I think of as the motorized demonic four horsemen (or however many there were) were made that way in like manner? They are certainly humanlike but appear to be what Malachi Martin would call perfectly possessed. The issue is that the Mandy mythos’ cult seeks “ascension” and are called the Children of the New Dawn.

Underworld/Transmutations: as Motherskille watches a soft-S&M ’80s dance someone references “a snake—two snakes.”
Mandy: Many intensely reads the book “Seeker of the Serpent’s Eye.”

Underworld/Transmutations: as it turns out, Nicole has some psychic-like abilities such as that, for example, she tells the Dr. “Bain said you thought I could make dreams real…I’ll make your dreams real…show me your dreams.”
Mandy: there are various dream sequences which symbolically predict what will really happen: they are shown and then made real.

Underworld/Transmutations: the mutants dwell underground so Bain must descend therein in order to seek Nicole at the end of which he ascends.
Mandy: the Children of the New Dawn have an underground dwelling/ritual site so Red must descend therein in order to seek revenge at the end of which he ascends.
