Nephilim discussion with some jerks on Goliath being a quasi-divine giants, 9 of 9

Concluding a discussion that took place during a live chat to a video by Rob Rowe, with whom I have had a discussion (see this video).

Picking up where we left off in the previous segment.

Ken Ammi @Brendan O’Brien
Perhaps, but by definition: Angles, Cherubim & Seraphim are different categories of being with different job titles, different job functions and don’t look like each other.

Chaos Kampf
Actually Nicholos Wyatt argues that the Cherubim may have been griffins rather than Mesopotamian karibu.

Ken Ammi @No More Sea
Similar, perhaps, but they all differ in at least three ways.

No More Sea
I agree there are differences!

Chaos Kampf
No they don’t. My god your exegesis is terrible.

Chaos Kampf
At least with regards to cherubs/seraphim

Ken Ammi
1) Messengers, 2) guardians, 3) and what I term keepers of the eternal flame.

Ken Ammi
1) no wings and look like human males, 2) 4 wings and 4 faces, feet like hooves, 3) six wings.

Chaos Kampf
Keepers of the eternal flame? wut

Chaos Kampf
this isn’t dark souls pal

I think “dark souls” refers to a video game or something.

No More Sea @Chaos Kampf
lol!

Chaos Kampf
You are inventing non-theology.

Chaos Kampf
what the hell are the keepers of the eternal flame?

Chaos Kampf
dark souls LARP

Chaos Kampf
LARP

Chaos Kampf
Please read Nicholas Wyatt’s paper on Cherubim.

Ken Ammi
Biblically, the Angelic order, proper, is the Angel of the LORD (is we would include him therein), Archangel, and well, regular Angels.

Kile myers
Genesis 3:24 So he drove out the man; and he placed at the east of the garden of Eden Cherubims, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to keep the way of the tree of life.

Ken Ammi
Indeed, such is part of why they are considered guardians.

Kile myers
I think he was confused by that

Brendan O’Brien @Ken Ammi
Do you agree that Archons were put in charge of the different nations after they were disinherited following Babel?

Ken Ammi
In fact, since Cherubim topped the Ark of the Covenant, you can throw out 99.9% of depictions of it.

Chaos Kampf
Read Heather Macumber’s paper on angels. Lots of Mesopotamian, Greek and Canaanite (as well as Persian) influence thrown into the mix. it’s hard to discern what exactly the the hierarchy is.

Kile myers
But they arent guarding an “eternal flame” Their swords are on fire lol

Ken Ammi @Brendan O’Brien
Something like that, I put a paper out on the internetz—;o)—titled “The Apocalypse of the Hidden Hand” that is just about that issue.

Ken Ammi @Kile myers
I’m not aware of Cherubim guarding an “eternal flame.”

Chaos Kampf
Cherubim can look like anything.

That statement is simply incoherent: see Ezekiel chaps. 1 and 10.

Kile myers
You just called them “The keepers of the eternal flame” lol.

Ken Ammi @Kile myers
No, I called them guardians and I called Seraphim “keepers of the eternal flame.”

Chaos Kampf
there is no such appellation for Seraphim in either apocryphal works or the OT

Well, there is one appellation for Seraphim, namely Seraphim.

Ken Ammi
Indeed, we’re only told about Seraphim in Isa 6 so the only thing we’ve to go by is that they praise God—Kodesh, Kodesh, Kodesh—and something to do with the fire on the heavenly altar.

Kile myers
They bring flaming coals to purify the lips of Isaiah. It’s imagery for the Holy Spirit who purges us of our sins Ken

Ken Ammi
Indeed.

Chaos Kampf
Ken Ammi played too much dark souls

Kile myers
I understand “keepers of the eternal flame” sounds cool but it’s theologically incorrect my friend

Ken Ammi
How so?

Brendan O’Brien @Ken Ammi
Regarding the Rephaim, one interpretation is that the word derives from the Ugaritic “rpum” which denotes the semi-deified deceased ancestors in other sources; no consensus though

Kile myers
Are the Seraphim the keepers of the Holy Spirit? Is this what your saying?

Ken Ammi @Brendan O’Brien
In Ugaritic cultures recently deceased kings & heroes were called kings & heroes but after the were dead for a while, they were called rpum.

Ken Ammi @Kile myers
I was just playing off of the metaphor. Or rather, playing off of the description of their actions.

Kile myers
Ah

Ken Ammi
Since we only have one text well, I attempted to do what I could with it ;o)

Ken Ammi
What’s interesting to ponder is that since Satan is a Cherub, he may not actually have been able to sin like the Angels did since he may not have the—equipment, capiche?

Kile myers
Ken Lucifiers sin was pride, Isaiah 14 And Ezekiel 28 tells us this

Chaos Kampf
The rephaim may never have been associated with the dead at all, but were a race of semi-divine beings fathered by El. Makes a lot of sense if they form the mythic background for Greek legends.

Ken Ammi @Kile myers
Indeed. He went on to think “I will be like the Most High” and introduced that rebellious concept to Eve, “you shall be as God.”

Ken Ammi

Chaos Kampf
I’ve read your blog post. It’s trash.

Chaos Kampf
You should consider publishing your material and having it peer-reviewed by Ugaritologists. Then Ill be more impressed.

(Nervous throat clear) I doubt it since that article was just me reviewing what peer reviewed journal paper stated.

Chaos Kampf
You’re a scam artist like all the rest of the fringe middle-earth pseuds.

And since the discussions went in another direction I ended my interaction.

And that, as they say, is that as the show ended.
