Mormon Transhumanist Association (post human, human enhancements)

There is a movement afoot to, in various ways, meld technology and biology. This movement goes by various terms such as Transhumanism, Post Humanism, Human Enhancements, etc. It covers a wide range of technologies from genetic manipulation of humans (the ultimate GMO; custom made babies), cloning, robotics, robot human interaction, nanotechnology, implantation of technology into human bodies, artificial bodies into which can be uploaded the contents of human brains, human bodies into which can be uploaded the contents of computer databases, etc., etc., etc.

One unique organization within this movement is the Mormon Transhumanist Association which, it ought be noted right away, claim, “we are neither a religious organization nor affiliated with any religious organization.” Well, that is tantamount to our mainstream media claiming that the Muslim Brotherhood is not a religious group but is secular. Really, what, pray tell, is the very first word in their name? “Muslim”!
Likewise, why call yourself that “Mormon” Transhumanist Association if you are not “affiliated with any religious organization”? They may mean that they are not an official branch of Mormonism or not officially, on the books, supported by the Mormon church proper.

However, their premise is exactly that of Mormonism and their membership is 74.7% Mormon with “Other” coming up second at 11%, “Non-LDS Mormon” (meaning other denominations/sects of Mormonism) at 5.5% and negligible (not even assigned a percentage on their chart) or “Non-Mormon Christian,” “Non-Christian Abrahamic,” and “None.” They claim to “support our members in their personal religious affiliations…and encourage them to adapt Transhumanism to their unique situations.”

In their website’s about page they state:

The Mormon Transhumanist Association is an international nonprofit organization that promotes radical flourishing in compassion and creation through technology and religion, as outlined in the Transhumanist Declaration and the Mormon Transhumanist Affirmation.

Although they are not “affiliated with any religious organization” (wink, wink, nudge, nudge) they explain the “relation between Mormonism and Transhumanism.” For example, “Increasingly, persons are recognizing parallels and complements between Mormon and Transhumanist views.” True, but no in the way their PR claims. Here is how they claim they are similar:

Mormonism and Transhumanism advocate remarkably similar views of human nature and potential: material beings organized according to law, rapidly advancing knowledge and power, imminent fundamental changes to anatomy and environment, and eventual transcendence of present limitations.

They have even come up with their very own niche term, their own denomination/sect of transhumanism which they call, “Transfigurism”:

Transfigurism is religious Transhumanism, exemplified by syncretization of Mormonism and Transhumanism. The term “transfigurism” denotes advocacy for change in form, and alludes to sacred stories from many religious traditions, such as the Universal Form of Krishna in Hinduism, the Radiant Face of Moses in Judaism, the Wakening of Gautama Buddha in Buddhism, the Transfiguration of Jesus Christ in Christianity, and the Translation of the Three Nephites in Mormonism. Transfigurism also alludes to prophecies, such as the Rapture in Christianity and the Day of Transfiguration in Mormonism.

That is right, the association is not “affiliated with any religious organization” but specifically seeks to, specifically, syncretize “Mormonism and Transhumanism.”

While this association is new to many, they actually incorporated in Utah (the heart of the Mormon world) and received 501c3 nonprofit status in the US in 2006 AD and are also tied in with Humanity+ (formerly the World Transhumanist Association).

Not that in the “What does the Mormon Transhumanist Association do?” section they note that, via “media, news and blogs,” they seek to inform others about “the intersection of Mormonism with science and technology and Transhumanism with religion and spirituality.” There is that “M” word again. Yet, in any case the key point is that they seek to:

…engage as a community in discussions and conferences about prophetic vision, scientific discovery, technological innovation, as well as opportunities and risks in our rapidly changing world. We also act with common purpose on team projects to cure disease, and extend and enhance life.

Now to the key bottom line point is the “parallels and complements between Mormon and Transhumanist views.”

Consider the following; Mormonism is considered to be mainstream Christianity. Many consider them as such because, after all, they use the words, the terms: Bible, God, Jesus, etc. and so they must be Christian because they believe in the Bible, God, Jesus, etc. This is indicative of the very, very lowly state of our culture which is increasingly encouraged to react emotionally rather than thinking rationally.

They can use the words/terms and believe in the Bible, God, Jesus, etc. and yet, how they define those words/terms determine whether or not they are Christian. At this link you can read in detail about this issue but, suffice it to say, that their view of the Bible is not Christian and they also have many other “scriptures,” their view of God is not Christian and their view of Jesus is not Christian.

Neither, most in context to this article, is their view of humanity Christian. They hold to infinite regression theology; this means that they believe that their god was once a man who lived on another planet. When he died, he resurrected, became a physical god of flesh and bones and copulated with his harem of goddess wives so as to create spirit babies. When humans copulate those spirits enter physical bodies and the process goes on and on and on.

The Mormon god (one of innumerable gods, according to their theology) was the result of pervious gods and we humans can become gods if we jump through Mormonism’s ritualistic hoops and remain in good standing with their church.

The original rebellion was heylel (aka lucifer) stating, “I will be like the Most High” (Isaiah 14:14) and the original deception was when, the fallen heylel/lucifer as the serpent/satan told Eve, “You will be like God” (Genesis 3:5).

It is utterly shocking that Mormonism is considered mainstream Christianity when we consider that at the very heart of their religion is the primary satanic doctrine: that humans can become gods.

And it is in this way, that tranhumanism/post humanism/human enhancements “parallels and complements” Mormonism.
