I will state upfront that I only watched one episode of The Tomorrow People.
That is mostly because I am pretty tired of cookie cutter shows with ultra hip twenty somethings with super powers, high tech, martial arts, yatta yatta yatta.
The show’s premise is a dichotomy between two “races.”
One is more evolved than thou having superpower-like paranormal abilities which came about via random evolutionary mutations—one character stated “nature doesn’t make mistakes”—they are known as Homo Superior aka The Tomorrow People.
The other is well, less evolved regular humans, perhaps we can call them The Yesterday People.
The show was developed by Greg Berlanti, Phil Klemmer and Julie Plec and stars Robbie Amell as Stephen Jameson, Peyton List as Cara Coburn, Luke Mitchell as John Young, Aaron Yoo as Russell Kwon, Mark Pellegrino as Jedikiah Price, et al.
Clearly, Jedikiah is a take on the Jedi of the Star Wars mythos. However, he is the anti-Jedi in a manner of speaking since the Jedi develop their paranormal powers whilst Jedikiah is an evolutionary biologist who seeks to cure Homo Superior.
Speaking of ultra hip: Jedikiah heads a group of such anti-Homo Superior activists known as “Ultra.” Makes me wonder if someone has been reading up on their—true—conspiracy theories and named the group attempting to bring order from chaos, via pharmaceutical, etc. after the CIA’s MK-Ultra.
Read up on Star Wars here and MK-Ultra here.
