Utter intolerance and lack of diversity is on display again as Miss USA contestant, Carrie Prejean, voiced her opinion opposing same sex marriage.
Perez Hilton is certainly to be admired as he went from utter obscurity to become one of the most well known bloggers in the celebrity gossip as news circles. Admittedly, this is deeply depressing for bloggers such as myself who at least tell ourselves that our blogging time (and the copious reading, research, musing and writing that go with it) is well spent on important topics. Yet, bloggers such as Perez Hilton get about a zillion hits per minute-c’est la vie of an apologist.
Perez Hilton has reached such celebrity himself that he is not only commonly known online but has appeared as a guest on various television shows. Also, as is relevant to this issue, he was a judge at the Miss USA Pageant for 2009 AD.
He chose to ask Miss California, Carrie Prejean, to express her views gay / same sex marriage during the pageant:
Perez Hilton: “Vermont recently became the fourth state to legalize same-sex marriage. Do you think every state should follow suit? Why or why not?”
Carrie Prejean: “Well I think it’s great that Americans are able to choose one way or the other.”
Before considering the rest of her answer let us pause to note that at this point she is a heroine, the very model of compassion, tolerance and diversity to be applauded and championed and perhaps become a spokeswoman for the cause!!!
But then_
She continued by stating:
We live in a land where you can choose same-sex marriage or opposite marriage. You know what, in my country, in my family, I do believe that marriage should be between a man and a woman, no offence to anybody out there.
But that’s how I was raised and I believe that it should be between a man and a woman. Thank you.
And just like that, from one second to the next, she became a villain; the very model of the uncompassionate, the intolerant who lack diversity to be vilified and shunned and perhaps become a spokeswoman for hate speech!!!
Perez Hilton’s erudite elucidation of the matter at hand was to state that hers was “the worst answer in pageant history.” And further referred to Carrie Prejean as a “dumb b****!” [expletive censored] Incidentally, he later apologized for making this statement but then took his apology back, affirmed this particularly expressed opinion of her and stated that he was thinking something much worse but toned down his comments to “dumb b****!”
Perhaps Perez Hilton would do well to learn a lesson that I am already teaching my very young son. You see, he sometimes seems to think that the purpose of posing a question is in order to get what he wants, in order to get a “yes” answer. Yet, I tell him that when he asks a question he should be prepared for a “Yes, no, or wait” answer and that he cannot get upset if he does not like the answer.
What Perez Hilton did, apparently, was to pretend to ask Carrie Prejean to express her opinion while in reality he was only seeking endorsements. The question asked what “Do you think” and “Why or why not?” Carrie Prejean stated what she thought but that was, apparently, not the point.
Now, note carefully that furthermore, Perez Hilton said that Carrie Prejean should have been more diplomatic. Does he mean more diplomatic than “dumb b****!”?
What we have here is a perfect, perfectly sad, example of pure hatred, intolerance and lack of diversity on the part of Perez Hilton. He should have been more diplomatic and responded with words to the effect of, “Well then, we certainly disagree but that is what makes this country great. I appreciate the opinion that I asked you to express and while I do not agree with it that is what tolerance and diversity is all about.”
Thus, this turn out to be a point against the gay / same sex movement. Note that my reference is not to homosexuals in general but to the homosexual movement which, yet again, has demonstrated it utter lack of diversity and tolerance in seeking to squelch dissent. This movement is so incredibly powerful that it has become a worldview whereby all things are judged according to homosexuality.
Consider questions such as:
What is the appropriate political party to support, the politician for whom to vote, the bill and law for which to vote? What is the correct theology, holy book, religion?Who is truly tolerant, moral, ethical, diverse?
What is to be supported in society, pop-culture, Hollywood?
According to the homosexual movement the answer to all of these questions and more, indeed all, is whichever accepts homosexuality (“accepts” generally meaning not only ignore or does not condemn but actively supports and endorses).
Let us not miss two points:Perez Hilton literally make, quite a good, living by stirring up trouble and gossiping-this is his bread and butter as it will keep him busy creating a buzz.Carrie Prejean will likely also benefit as supporters of traditional marriage may seek her endorsement.
“It’s ugly,” said Scott Ihrig, a gay man, who attended the pageant with his partner. “I think it’s ridiculous that she got first runner-up. That is not the value of 95 percent of the people in this audience. Look around this audience and tell me how many gay men there are.”
While 95 percent of the people in this audience, a small and biased sample group, may have disagreed with her a majority of the entire country agree. Note the intolerance; since most in the audience disagree, she is wrong and >”It’s ugly.” However, the fact is that upon voicing her answer the crowd roared in approval. I suppose that the crowd also were nothing but dumb “B” words!
For her part, Carrie Prejean’s grace shone through,
“It is a very touchy subject and [Hilton] is a homosexual, and I see where he was coming from and I see the audience would’ve wanted me to be more politically correct. But I was raised in a way that you can never compromise your beliefs and your opinions for anything.”
