A certain Janet Morrison has been a long time interlocutor of mine and so I’ll be featuring some of our discussions: see here for them all.
She answered the question If we have free will, why did God kill the people of Sodom and Gomorrah and flooded the Earth? thusly
In the Old Testament fallen angels took human women as wives. They created giant offspring called the Nephilim who corrupted the human race genetically and spiritually. So God used the great flood and Joshua to wipe out the Nephilim. If God had not of wiped out the evil Nephilim, then the human race would have ceased to exist, a long time ago.
I, Ken Ammi, replied
There’s literally zero reliable indication that “God used the great flood and Joshua to wipe out the Nephilim” and FYI God doesn’t need help.
Janet Morrison
Read Genesis 6. The entire earth was corrupted by the Nephilim. Noah was perfect in his generations. Meaning Noah was genetically still 100 % human. So Noah’s family was used to rebuild the human race after the flood. Obviously God used the flood to wipe out the corrupted Nephilim seed.
Ken Ammi
Please be honest since you literally can’t fool me.
This is what you actually believe and teach on the WORLD WIDE web:
“Read Genesis 6. The entire earth was corrupted by the Nephilim. Noah was perfect in his generations. Meaning Noah was genetically still 100 % human. So Noah’s family was used to rebuild the human race after the flood. Obviously God used the flood to wipe out the corrupted Nephilim seed. But God failed, missed a loophole, the flood was much of a waste, etc., etc., etc., since they just came right back to do it all again. And I’m willing to damage theology proper so as to worship a failed god due to one single sentence from an unreliable ‘evil report’ by 10 unreliable guys whom God rebuked: I side with them, not with God nor Moses nor Caleb nor Joshua nor the rest of the who entire Bible whom those guys contradicted.”
That was the end of that since she stopped replying.
Another interaction was when she replied as follows so the question In Genesis 2:5, God did not want it to rain. Why did God create the flood in Genesis 6, and not in Genesis 2-5 when people sinned?
Genesis 6 talks of fallen angels mating with human women producing giants called the Nephilim. The Nephilim corrupted the human race genetically and spiritually. But Noah was found perfect in his geberations. Noah was still 100% a human being plus he was a man of Faith in God. So God used Noah’s family to rebuild the human race after the great flood cataclysm.
Ken Ammi
“producing giants called the Nephilim” is anachronistic since Hebrew came first so it’d be “human women producing Nephilim called the giants MILLENNIA later when English finally came along” and, of course, that begs the question of what “giants” means, what your usage of that term is, what the English Bibles’ usage it, etc.
Janet Morrison
The word Nephilim comes from the Hebrew wird Nephal, which means to fall. Hence people get the reference to the fallen angels mating with human women producing giant Nephilim.
Ken Ammi
Since you know that I wrote the book on the relevant linguistics—“ Bible Encyclopedias and Dictionaries on Angels, Demons, Nephilim, and Giants: From 1851 to 2010”—I’m unsure why you’re telling me 101 level linguistics factoids.
You don’t seem to understand how your usage of language is confused and anachronistic even when I elucidate it to you.
As for, “producing giant Nephilim” how could it make sense to you to write that AFTER I noted, “that begs the question of what ‘giants’ means, what your usage of that term is, what the English Bibles’ usage it, etc.”?
That was the end of that since she stopped replying.
Another interaction was when she replied as follows so the question Where did the giant people come from during the time of Noah? Did Noah’s family encounter any of these giants before or during the flood?
YOU MAY WANT TO READ Genesis 6 and the book of ENOCH. The fallen angels mated with human women producing hybrid giants called the Nephilim. The Nephilim mean the fallen.
The Nephilim corrupted all the earth spiritually and genetically. But Noah was found perfect in his generations. Noah was genetically a pure human being and a man of faith. So God used Noah’s family to rebuild the human race after the flood. The flood was used to wipe out the Nephilim.
There was no mention of giants in Abrahams time. But by the time Israel returned to the promised land of Canaan, the land was full of Nephilim giants called the Anakim. They also encountered Rephaim giants. Og King of Bashan was a Rephaim with a bed 13 feet long.
There were names for the Nephilim. The Rephaim giants were called the terrible ones. Anakim the king necked ones. Emin the men of terror. And Zamzumin meant the sight of them made the heart faint.
God told Joshua to wipe out any giant Nephilim tribe. But he was to respect boundaries with human tribes.
God used the flood and Joshua to wipe out the Nephilim giants. If the Nephilim had not of been wiped out, the human race would have ceased to exist a long time ago. The earth would have been taken over by Nephilim.
Ken Ammi
“YOU MAY WANT TO READ…the book of ENOCH” which is Bible contradicting folklore from centuries, if not millennia, after the Torah, see my book, “In Consideration of the Book(s) of Enoch.”
We can’t know to what you’re referring by “There was no mention of giants in Abrahams time” since you used the multi-usage, subjective, generic, and vague modern English word “giants” without defining it.
Now, you are the one who affirmed, “The flood was used to wipe out the Nephilim” but then you suddenly assert “by the time Israel returned to the promised land of Canaan, the land was full of Nephilim giants called the Anakim. They also encountered Rephaim giants. Og King of Bashan was a Rephaim with a bed 13 feet long.”
So, you had it that God wiped them out but they came back so why didn’t you bother telling us how that happened?
You implied that God failed, missed a loophole, the flood was much of a waste, etc., etc., etc.
As for, “Nephilim giants called the Anakim” the ONLY indication of any such thing is 1. One single sentence, 2. From a “evil report, 3. In non-LXX versions, 4. By 10 unreliable guys, 5. Whom God rebuked.
Why didn’t you state those facts?
Also, you seem to be unaware that Anakim were Rephaim (like a clan of a tribe), they weren’t Nephilim (Deut 2).
As for, “Rephaim giants” it’s very obvious that you’re unaware of the linguistics so you’re just jumping from Hebrew to English.
So what if Og had a big bed: what does that have to do with anything?
Are you aware of what that “bed” was?
You merely asserted, “There were names for the Nephilim” but you went on to list Rephaim then a mere aka for Rephaim which is Zamzummim (Deut 2) and then clans of the Rephaim tribe, the Anakim and Emmim (also Deut 2).
Haven’t you ever read Deut 2?
You merely asserted, “God told Joshua to wipe out any giant Nephilim tribe” but you didn’t actually quote or cite anything since there’s literally no such statement anywhere in the whole entire Bible.
Have you read what God actually said, many times, about those commands to “wipe out”?
Note your contradictory incoherent, “God used the flood and Joshua to wipe out the Nephilim giants. If the Nephilim had not of been wiped out, the human race would have ceased to exist a long time ago. The earth would have been taken over by Nephilim” but it’s you who told us that’s not true, it’s you who merely asserted, “by the time Israel returned to the promised land of Canaan, the land was full of Nephilim…”
And, you manipulated God’s Word since according to the Bible, it’s a case of that, “God used the flood…to wipe out the Nephilim” and didn’t fail so He later had to use mere humans to do the job He couldn’t handle: please reject your fallen god and come to the One True Almighty Living God of the Bible.
Janet Morrison
The fact is that any person who states that there were no Nephilim after the flood is ignoring Numbers chapter 13, which clearly states the giants were the Anakim who were Nephilim.
You can dance around that issue with lots and lots of arguments, but you would have to omit Numbers chapter 13 from your Torah, in order to make a solid case.
Ken Ammi
Let’s try a little exercise: take the many, many, many, many corrections I’ve made to your mere assertions and write what you already know I would reply to your reply to me.
I can think of at least three utterly devastating major problems you caused by your mere and generic goalpost-moving assertion: can you identify them?
And that ended that one. Keep checking the link above since more interactions with her will be posted.
