Friedrich Nietzsche noted, “If the idea of God falls away, so does the feeling of ‘sin’” and not just the feeling of sin but he goes on to state that what falls away is the feeling of sin “as a transgression against divine precepts.”
We removed the Ten Commandments from public schools and moved in metal detectors. We went from the worse problems at school being chewing gum and running in the hallways to drugs, rape and murder.
This, or so it seems to me, ties in with a cultural trend whereby people spend their days declaring themselves to be good. Conveniently, this proclamation of one’s own goodness is utterly un-contextual and thus undefined.
I am referring to the trend of asking people “You good?” and replying with “I’m good” when the issue is something to the likes of “Do you want a refill on your soda?” and the reply should be “Yes, please”…or, “No thank you as 48 grams of sugar is plenty!”
So, the upcoming generation—which I call Generation Emotive Monosyllabic Mouth-Breathing Sociopath—have been made to have “the idea of God” purposefully fallen away from them, the feeling of sin is a non-issue, there is no such thing as a transgression (except against manmade laws de jour) and certainly no such thing as “divine precepts.”
Is it any wonder that we have rampant unethical behaviors not only being excused but encouraged and celebrated?
