Fifty Shades of Alien Grey Matter – Encounters, part 1

CLOSE ENCOUNTERS OF VARIOUS KINDS

Within this series, which is a follow up on Fifty Shades of Alien Grey Matter – fi to sci-fi, I will glean from Martin Kottmeyer’s articles “Varicose Brains, Part 1: Entering a Grey Area,” “Varicose Brains, Part 2: Heading Towards the Future” and “Varicose Brains, Part 3: Headhunt,” Magonia. I will attempt to keep things somewhat chronologically. Following I will relate some of the details specifically relevant to the large headed small bodies grey alien archetype in general.

In that regard, many of the images I collected and posted as the original Fifty Shades of Grey article (see slide show of images at the end of this article).

Kottmeyer notes, “the Airship Waves of 1896/97 where researchers have found 36 detailed CE3Ks [Close Encounters of the 3rd Kind], at least 14 of which are explicitly extraterrestrial.”

H.G. Shaw 1896 AD case as reported in Robert G. Neeley, UFOs of 1896/1897: The Airship Wave (FFUFOR, n.d.), pp. 46-69, case #1 includes the following description:

…seven feet high and very slender…The creature was easily lifted with “a specific gravity” (sic) of perhaps an ounce…The faces and head are without hair. The nose is like polished ivory. The eyes are large and lustrous. They are toothless and have so small a mouth it was inferred that their lives were sustained by some sort of gas.

Grey aliens are generally reported to be short but they are said to have tall comrades (leaders?). In any case, aliens are reported to be of every shape and size. Referring to Linda Howe’s “Glimpses of Other Realities: Volume 1: Facts and Eyewitnesses” (LMH Productions, 1993 AD), p. 265, it is noted that her “taxonomy allows the existence of ‘Taller Gray Beings, No Hair.’”

With regards to height, Neeley’s case #6 reports, “7 foot tall Jupiterians.” Case #12 “11-12 foot tall Martians.” #16, “9½ foot tall.” #19, “an unusually large Apollo.” #21 reports a being described as “tall.” #22 “man from Mars is 18 feet tall.”

#35 “20 feet tall and weighing 1000 pounds.”

1940s AD In 1947 AD alien / UFO encounters were making it into the newspapers.

A letter to the Nashville Tennessean reported “strange little men, ‘all heads and arms and legs, and glowing like fireflies.’”

The Houston Post published an report titled, “Circle-Silly: Sailor Sees A Sociable Saucerite” which referenced, “A little man, two feet tall and with a head the size of a basket ball.”
Curitiba, Brazil’s “Diario da Tarde” reported “Jose C. Higgins in the Brazilian state of São Paulo, allegedly encountered some 7-foot tall entities…Described as having huge round bald heads, huge round eyes, no eyebrows, no beards, and indeterminate gender.”

Gordon Creighton’s “The Villa Santina Case” published in Charles Bowen’s “The Humanoids” (Henry Regnery, 1969 AD, pp. 187-99) reports an August 14, 1947 AD encounter with “short, earthy-greenish, big-headed, big-eyed extraterrestrial beings” however, “no document exists preceding his March 20, 1964 letter to a Turin ufologist.”

Reference is also made to a certain Branton’s “Operation Retaliation” within “The Dulce Book”:

They are “no more than 90 centimetres in height” and his sketch shows them to be slender. Their heads were bigger than a normal human’s and “they had no signs of hair.” The absence of eyebrows also favours the presumption of hairlessness, but a cap prevents certain knowledge of how bare the skull is. The eyes are enormous, protruding and round; the colour of well-ripened yellow-green plums. They have vertical pupils…a nose, “straight, geometrical, and very long”…the mouth is a mere slit.

Here you can find various images of grey aliens taken, mostly, from sci fi/fantasy books, comics and movies which subsequently inform pop-occulture.
