Don’t get distracted about Todd Akin abortion and “legitimate rape”

A segment of a statement by Missouri Rep. Todd Akin has brought the issue of rape into the foreground of the media, pop culture and the politics. The segment in view is as follows:

If it’s a legitimate rape, the female body has ways to try to shut that whole thing down.

But let’s assume that maybe that didn’t work or something: I think there should be some punishment, but the punishment ought to be of the rapist, and not attacking the child.

A statement about abortion has turned into a debate about rape and behold, an election time distraction is born. A distraction from both the forefront issues with which America needs to be dealing right now and also from abortion.

For the sake of defining terms, abortion is the brutal and painful dismembering murder of beautiful, healthy, innocent and defenseless human babies.

The distraction revolves around whether it is scientifically accurate to claim that “the female body has ways to try to shut that whole thing down” and, more in the forefront, the issue of “legitimate rape.” Perhaps politicians need a scrolling banner to be shown whenever they speak which will state:

I do not mean what I say nor do I say what I mean. I apologize for offending anyone. I misspoke, misstated, was taken out of context…

Indeed, Rep. Todd Akin has stated that he misspoke but what does that matter in a culture of gotcha politics and judging people based on 5 second sound bites? But such is the way of an anti-intellectual culture.

With politicians being asked to comment on the issue the preposterous reference to “legitimate rape” has met with an opposite and equally preposterous reference to “forceful rape” as commentators are attempting to show their right view on this issue.

Really, “forceful rape”? By definition rape is forceful!

The bottom line of this issue is twofold:

1) Sans the misspoken/misstatement (or, what have you), “there should be some punishment, but the punishment ought to be of the rapist, and not attacking the child.”

Recall that President Barack Obama, in referring to immoral and under aged sex and not rape, stated that he would not want his daughters to be “…punished with a baby.”

Indeed, while the issue of a woman carrying to term a baby which resulted from rape is a very, very difficult issue, emotionally, psychologically, ethically and intellectually, it is a fact that it is an innocent human baby.

2) Pro-abortionists have long attempted to use the issue of rape in order to justify abortion in general, abortion for all, for any reason, at any point in the pregnancy, for any age woman/girl. And yet, this too is a distraction since while it is most certainly an important issue abortion should be tackled from the top down: beginning with abortion as birth control first and rape towards the bottom (in order of statistical reasons for abortions).

According to the pro-abortion Alan Guttmacher Institute the latest statistics, which date to 2008 AD, show worldwide abortions at 43.8 MILLION. And these 43.8 MILLION are known, reported abortions.

Closing thought:

When dealing with a pro-abortionist (who often hide behind the term pro-choice) ask them to first define “abortion.”

When they state something to the likes of “the termination of a pregnancy” ask them of what a pregnancy consists.

When they reference “zygote,” “fetus,” “by product of conception,” or any dehumanizing term point out that when a woman looks forward to giving birth, she never, ever uses such terms but the baby is a baby from the minute that the sperm fertilizes the egg.

And, most importantly, do not get sidetracked by debating “women’s rights” but since they support abortion ask them to describe an abortion—or, rather, the various forms of abortion. Have them face, in real life and Technicolor, what it is that they actually support because they are not supporting ethereal, abstract, impersonal rights. No, they support the brutal and painful dismembering murder of beautiful, healthy, innocent and defenseless human babies. Make them describe, in detail, the procedures which they support with their words, thoughts and votes.
