In the article Book review: “ABOMINATION – Devil Worship and Deception in the West Memphis Three Murders” by William Ramsey we noted that the West Memphis Three (WM3) pertained to three brutally murdered eight year olds—Steve Branch, Christopher Byers and James Michael Moore—and three accused, incarcerated and subsequently released teenagers (released after circa two decades)—Damien Wayne Echols, Jason Baldwin and Jessie Misskelley, Jr.
Previous segments include part 1, part 2, part 3 and part 4.
An “Individual Progress Note” by Sherry Dockins states:
Damien relates that a spirit is now living with him. The spirit was put inside him last year. He indicates that a month ago the spirit decided to become part of him and he to become part of the spirit. This is reportedly a spirit of a woman who was killed by her husband…He has not seen the spirit but does hear the spirit. In addition, he also reports…He denies that he is satanic, seeing himself more as being involved in demonology.
Considering the correlations that have been drawn between demonism and “extra-terrestrial alien” abduction experiences, it is fascinating that Damien Echols at one point wrote, “I thought maybe I was an alien” and went on to recall experiences which may be categorized as “sleep paralysis” which is applicable to, both, demonism and “alien” abduction:
…when I was very young one night I woke up and there was someone in my bed. It scared me so bad I couldn’t even move…I can remember one night when I was a little older and I woke up to see a man standing in my room. It paralyzed me. I wouldn’t even blink because I knew as soon as I opened my eyes he would be right in my face…These things always happened at night…one night when there was an old man in my room. I thought if I just ignored him he would go away. But when I looked again he was right in front of me. He licked my hand and said “Does that feel like a dream to you?” He talked for awhile of things that arn’t important yet.
While incarcerated after his 1993 arrest; Damien Echols wrote various letters meant to be saved and given to his baby boy when he grew up (a baby that Echols and then live-in-girlfriend Dominique “Domini” Teer once planned on sacrificing), so this is certainly a legacy in writing. Within those letters he wrote:
This morning when I woke up my eyes were stuck open. I must have slept that way. My heart was beating so hard it was vibrating in my head. I went to hell. I was not a dream. I was really there. It wasn’t that bad. The old man took me there. He is my constant companion now. My new name is Baalberath.
Baalberath (or, Baalberith) is a Canaanite god; Judges 8:33-35 states:
Then it came about, as soon as Gideon was dead, that the sons of Israel again played the harlot with the Baals, and made Baal-berith their god. Thus the sons of Israel did not remember the LORD their God, who had delivered them from the hands of all their enemies on every side; nor did they show kindness to the household of Jerubbaal (that is, Gideon) in accord with all the good that he had done to Israel.
Much like Aleister Crowley, Damien Echols’ personal mythology (or cosmology, as some term it) was, partly, Bible based in a very unique and very troubling manner:
…the police came and arrested me for something I did not do. I listened for the first time to the sound of my surroundings. I saw the truth for the first time. I opened my eyes to see a discovery. I was the God of the New Eon [Aeon], the Beast of the Apocalypse. Everyone saw it before me. I was the last to know. Now I know these idiots can never touch me. I will not stop until they have all paid for this. I did absolutely nothing. Now I’ve decided to prove myself to everyone. I will slay myself. But I will be back, I will rise again in three days, just like the first God.
Only my message won’t be of peace. It will be of war. It will be a time when everyone must pay for their mistakes. It will be the Armageddon…
This too is Crowley inspired as both referred to themselves as god of the New Aeon and the Beast.
Already we can see his attempts to also liken himself with Jesus—“I will rise again in three days”—but he is most certainly not like Jesus and admittedly so—“Only my message won’t be of peace.”
Damien Echols also wrote of a, spirit of sorts, named “Rosey” who would visit him at night. Rosey is not the aforementioned “spirit of a woman who was killed by her husband” as Echols writes of Rosey in male terms.
In his own words; Echols left behind a styled diary elucidating the step by step process of possession:
…I can see physical changes happening in my body. I can tell it’s getting ready. The abonations have already begun to be spit forth from the Earth. I have seen some of them. I will become one soon. I will be the king of freaks…
I am outgrowing my skin. My hands and feet are changing. I am the Christ. Realize what’s happening before it’s to late…I can feel pressure building up inside my body. The more I think about this situation the worse it gets. Sometimes it gets so bad It almost makes me go into a frenzy. Rosey says control it for awhile longer and then we’ll let everything go all at once, like a blizzard. They will all pay…He said we’ll do lots of fun things from now on. He says he has to show me a lot of stuff before October.” [from Echols’ writings to Glori Shettles. Sic.]
He references October as he had been looking forwards to Halloween.
While Echols was incarcerated, Rosey seems to have offered him some amount of freedom; providing him sleep paralysis-like, out of body experiences. He wrote that “Rosey takes my somewhere every night now” and on one occasion, “Rosey put me in a horse”; note that he was “in” and not “on” a horse.
At one point, he even set a date, a year, for his apocalyptic Armageddon:
Today I have a splitting headache. I feel like I got a hangover. It’s cause Rosey won’t let me sleep that much… I don’t feel very well today. I’m getting sick every time me and Rosey do something it makes me really sleepy and hungry. Once I even got a nose bleed. By 1994 nothing will be left. It is going to be the last war. I will have to choose disciples before Halloween. The war will start in 94—the world ends in 96. No more. Everyone will pay because everyone is too stupid to open their eyes. This is the final times and I am the new Messiah. Wake up and smell the crud faggets. I don’t care whether you are saved or not. Everyone pays the price. I’ve been thinking alot. I may change the date to September, 01. Sometimes I just don’t feel like waiting until Halloween. This will be the beginning of the End. I will wait for a sign from the spirits to show me, when to begin. No hope for human kind, the time of the Gods is at hand, they are waiting to Enter the Gates. Kutulu is waking. Once he is awakened, nothing can be done. My body is changing but that medicine is making it happen a lot more slowly than normal. I am outgrowing my skin. I am eating packs of sugar and Kool-Aid to give my body the extra energy it needs to make its change. Soon people will be able to know I am the Christ just by looking at me…
The spirits won’t leave me alone. They surround me constantly. Always talking. They won’t let me sleep, they won’t let me think. Everything is different now. [sic.]
Kutulu is in reference to the author H. P. Lovecraft’s character Cthulhu who is a chimeric creature with characteristic of a giant human, octopus, dragon, etc. which is hundreds of feet tall, with rudimentary wings on its back.
Aleister Crowley focused his magickal system, Thelema, upon the concept of contacting one’s holy guardian angel. Of course, in true satanic fashion holy means unholy, guardian means menacing and angel means demon.
William Ramsey quotes Crowley’s Magick in Theory and Practice (p. 131) to the affect that:
THE BEAST 666 (Crowley) has preferred to let names stand as they are, and to proclaim simply that AIWAZ — the solar-phallic-hermetic “Lucifer” is His own Holy Guardian Angel, and “The Devil” SATAN or HADIT of our particular unit of the Starry Universe.
Of course, in the inside-out, upside-down and backwards world of Satanism; lucifer is viewed in Gnostic terms as the good guy who brought humanity enlightenment and freedom from the evil God YHVH of the Bible.
Wicca, the so called white magic, was founded by Gerald Gardner who met Aleister Crowley on Beltane May 1, 1946 AD:
Gardner told a follower that he used a lot of Crowley’s writings because they represented ‘the very spirit of paganism.’ Gardner himself speculated that Crowley may have invented Wicca himself. In Witchcraft Today, Gardner states that he “may have borrowed things from the cult writings, or more likely someone may have borrowed expressions from him”… Gardner borrowed elements from Crowley such as the Gnostic Mass, which became the basis for the Wiccan Great Rite. “There are indeed expressions and certain words used that smack of Crowley…” The Great Rite ceremony forming the third degree initiation into Wicca was based on the sixth degree ritual for the OTO.
The male represents Baphomet and the woman represents Lady Babalon. Most of the material plagiarized from Crowley was excised between 1954-57 to placate females turned off by Crowley’s male chauvinism and to prevent ill repute upon the Craft. (William Ramsey is quoting Gerald Gardner’s Witchcraft Today, pp. 47, 71, 74)
Gardner also traveled to Los Angeles where he met with rocket scientist and Aleister Crowley disciple Jack Parsons (whose magickal scribe was L. Ron Hubbard; founder of Dianetics and Scientology) as, at the time, Parsons was in charge of the Agape Lodge in Pasadena, CA (“Welcome to the hotel California” where, “they just can’t kill The Beast”).
Gerald Gardner became a business partner with Cecil Williamson and his “first American initiate” was Raymond Buckland. It was Buckland’s Complete Book of Witchcraft which “the West Memphis coven and Damien Echols used…as a reference manual and guidebook.”
Aleister Crowley believed himself to be the reincarnation of occultist Eliphas Levi (whom Albert Pike heavily plagiarized in his Morals and Dogma of the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite of Freemasonry). Thus, Crowley borrowed from Levi, Gardner borrowed from Crowley, Buckland borrowed from Gardner and Echols borrowed from Buckland. And, of course, Levi borrowed from those who came before him and those yet to come will borrow from them all.
William Ramsey notes:
…adherence to occult doctrines is a reality in parts of modern America and the world today. My experience with [researching] Crowley, coupled with additional research into witchcraft, the occult and its adherents, hopefully will provide an additional insight into a highly charged, oft-confusing subject matter.
My hope is to educate the reader about the occult and its influence upon the individuals who committed this crime. Referencing the works of influential magicians and witches abundantly supports my position that occultism and witchcraft influenced the West Memphis events and continues to influence the people involved in this case, primarily Damien Echols.” (William Ramsey, Abomination, p. 6)
In the next segment we will consider Echols’ messiah complex.
Video on the O.T.O. document which states that Echols:
…chose to affiliate with the O.T.O. He chose to allow himself “outed” as a Thelemite [adherent to Aleister Crowley’s ritual magick] within our community at great personal risk. He chose to become registered with the O.T.O. Prison Ministry with me as his “minister.” He’s even donating a portion of his personal library to the Camp…
