Demonic possession is just a mouse click away – “Devil's Due” movie ad

The movie Devil’s Due was released by 20th Century Fox. IMBb offers a succinct description:
“After a mysterious, lost night on their honeymoon, a newlywed couple finds themselves dealing with an earlier-than-planned pregnancy. While recording everything for posterity, the husband begins to notice odd behavior in his wife that they initially write off to nerves, but, as the months pass, it becomes evident that the dark changes to her body and mind have a much more sinister origin.”

A Facebook based advertising campaign which offers the choice to “Convert your religion now” as “You gift from #devilsdue awaits.”

Thus, you can now convert to satanism with one simple mouse click. Well, those who have clicked to convert say that what the mouse click get you is an exclusive view of a movie trailer…oh, and, eternal damnation due to possession—hey, you can always hit the backspace key, right?!?!?

There are a few ways to look at this stunt:

1) It is, indeed, a mere stunt, a good time, fun and funny way to get some publicity; after all, we wrote about it and you are reading about it even if we do not see the movie. As Oscar Wilde stated, “The only thing worse than being talked about is not being talked about.” This is why people utterly humiliate themselves in public (on the wwww) because all publicity is good publicity; or so thinks pop-occulture.

2) It is the continued slide down the slippery slope of trampling on anything sacred. Or, rather, the only sacred thing is profane. Calling good evil and evil good (Isaiah 5:20) has become normative. We hear of “bad” being used to mean “good,” in fact, some use the term “wicked good” and “sick (usually followed by dude!)” means “awesome,” etc., etc., etc. Thus, it is all a big joke, a big game as some think their entire lives to be, “eat and drink for tomorrow we die” (1st Corinthians 15:32 which actually states that, that is what we should do if Christ is not risen).

3) Read anything about possession and exorcism and you will learn that it is a litigious process. That is to say that a person must exercise their will in favor of giving the demon access. A person must make a choice to open themselves to possession. Of course, this can come about when a demon pretends to be a higher being, an ascended master, aliens, angels, our higher selves, etc., etc., etc. Thus, clicking on a link that offers to convert your religion and the premise is satanism one has exercised their will to actually go through the process.
Now, no, it is not likely that someone will click their mouse button and instantly spin their heads 360 degrees and projectile vomit green spew. However, while one may not become possessed by such a willful act, they may have left the door to their soul ajar. You see, you may think that it is just fun and games but I get the feeling that satan does not have a sense of humor. It is not like he is going to appear in your room to take possession of your soul only to say, “BEHOLD, I COME FOR THEE AND….wait, what? Oh, you were just kidding, you just wanted to watch a viral vid! You hit the backspace button and deleted your browsing history. Oh boy, well, this is kinda embarrassing…I gotta go now.”

We live in a culture, a pop-occulture, wherein we are not taught how to think but we are told what to think. Moreover, thinking is overacted and we have become largely emotive; reacting emotionally rather than discerning reasonably. Many virtually live in virtual reality with online “friends” and video games with unlimited “lives” whereby they can always restart. They are taught that we are nothing but the result of a series of lucky accidents, there is no god to whom to give account and so; do what thou wilt…just, don’t get caught (and if you do get caught, just blame someone else).

Think on these things friends; be aware and beware.
