Yes, he is back and this time that crazy cat is yet again attempting to gain some American dollars towards his cause, whatever that may be this time…
This time Cat Stevens, who long ago renamed himself Yusuf Islam, is selling his wears by the toned down name of simply Yusuf. One can only wonder why this would be. Actually, his name is Steven Demetre Georgiou aka Cat Stevens aka Yusuf Islam aka Yusuf.
Culturally speaking, two of the hippest positions you can take in America today is being a Muslim or an atheist. Both bank on claiming victim-hood status, both claim growing numbers, both clamor for representation in everything from Hollywood to the White House, etc.
Maybe the reason for making a pseudonym out of his pseudonym was to draw attention away from the fact that, oh, you know, he called of the assassination of Salman Rushdie in the name of his adopted faith, Islam.
Well, in the past few years Cat Stevens / Yusuf Islam has been attempting to make nice with the civilized worlds and, apparently, realizing that even if he must gain it from the great satan, America by his brand of Islamic standards, an old dog must recall his old tricks in order to get a bone. Thus, Cat Stevens / Yusuf Islam is selling his music, some old and some new, under the succinct name “Yusuf.”
I detailed his murderous rants at this link and so here I will merely make some of the relevant points. During his latest media outings Cat Stevens / Yusuf Islam has not, to my knowledge, been asked pertinent questions such as, oh, I don’t know,
“Do you still support the assassination of fiction writers?”
Or,
“Why do you suppose that when Salman Rushdie wrote an unflattering fictional novel about Islam you and your friends supported a death sentence that drove him into hiding but when Dan Brown wrote an unflattering fictional novel about Christianity he became a millionaire celebrity and got more book and movie deals?”
No.
Let us take a walk down memory lane and recall the, still un-repented, statements by Cat Stevens / Yusuf Islam.
In 2006 AD, during his previous attempts at gaining great satan’s money, Cat Stevens / Yusuf Islam made his position clear in stating,
I certainly never supported the Fatwa. But when I was asked about, you know, the actual principle of blasphemy and capital punishment, well…yeah, its there in the Qur’an. I couldn’t deny that.
Well, there you have it maaaaaaan, now get on the peace train again.
However, his initial statements about Salman Rushdie where crystal clear,
Any writer who abuses the prophet, or indeed any prophet, under Islamic Law the sentence for that is actually death.
Moreover, upon viewing Salman Rushdie’s burning effigy Cat Stevens / Yusuf Islam stated,
I would have hoped that it’d be the real thing.
Had he known were Salman Rushdie was,
I might ring somebody who might do more damage to him than he would like…I’d try to phone the Ayatollah Khomeini and tell him exactly where this man is.
You may recall that the Ayatollah Khomeini was the one who issued the fatwa calling for the assassination of Salman Rushdie.
Cat Stevens / Yusuf Islam, claiming to “never knowingly supported any terrorist group,”1 was deported from Israel in 2000 AD due to allegations that he backed the militant Islamic group Hamas and was denied entry into America.
Please do not let Cat Stevens / Yusuf Islam fool you by his latest watered down media campaign lest he come clean and clearly denounce his former Jihadist views he does not deserve a simply penny, or otherwise any coinage of any monetary value, but ought be shunned and not recorded and popularized.
