Apocryphal Texts on Paranormal Entities

This is a notification on a series I will be posting which provides references from what will be generically referred to as apocryphal texts as a general reference to non-canonical texts (which include some categorized as the Apocrypha, Deutero Canonical, Pseudepigrapha, Gnostic Texts, etc., see my article on the Apocrypha here). The quotations are of those sections within the text that refer to Angels, Cherubim, Seraphim, Devil, Satan, demons, serpent and dragon. The point is not to elucidate these references but to provide relevant partial quotations and citations.

I will begin posting the references within the next segment which will deal with Angels in the Apocrypha.

Biblically, we are told the names of three and maybe four Angels namely, Michael, Gabriel, Abaddon aka Apollyon and, if it is an Angel, Wormwood.
Apocryphal texts provide us other name of what are claimed to be Angels, you will find these within the quotations which follow:

Adonaios, Aftemeloukhos, Aker, Alfatha, Arakiel, Armaros, Armen, Armozel, Arphugitonos, Artaqifa, Asbeel, Azarias, Azael aka Azazel, Beburos, Baraqel, Batarjal, Beliar, Busasejal, Cedar, Chairoum, Danjal, Domah aka Dumah, Ezrael, Gabael, Gabuthelon, Gadreel, Galila, Harmathoth, Hananel, Istrael, Jaoel aka Joel, Jeqon, Jeremiel, Jetrel, Jurqami, Kasbeel, Kasdeja, Kerkoutha, Kokabel, Mauch, Mermeoth, Nathanael, Naoutha, Neqael, Oertha, Penemue, Phanuel, Pravuil, Raguel, Ramiel, Raphael, Rumjal, Rumael, Sammael, Samiel, Samjaza (variously spelled as Shemhazai, Shemyaza, Semihazah, Semjase, Semyaza, etc.), Satanael, Satanas, Seth, Simapesiel, Temlakos, Tumael, Turael, Turel, Uriel, Xathanael, Yobel, Zathael, Zebuleon, etc., etc., etc.

There is also the interesting case of the Tartarouchos aka Tartaruchi aka Tatirokos aka Tartaruchus which are often said to be keepers or care takers of Tartarus. However, as will be specified within this series, the Greek term temelouchos seems to have been mistaken for a proper name of an Angel.

The next segment will consider Angles in 2 Esdras / Ezra aka 4 Esdras aka Latin Esdras: 70 AD.

A plea: I have to pay for server usage and have made all content on this website free and always will. I support my family on one income and do research, writing, videos, etc. as a hobby. If you can even spare $1.00 as a donation, please do so: it may not seem like much but if each person reading this would do so, even every now and then, it would add up and really, really help. Here is my donate/paypal page.
