This is a continuation, as it were, on previous parsed article On Aleister Crowley’s Book of the Law motto “Do what thou wilt”
As per the concept that everything is a remix (which itself is a remix of the Bible’s statement that “There is nothing new under the Sun” Ecclesiastes 1:9) “Do what thou wilt” (which “shall be the whole of the law” as per Aleister Crowley) is a remix of the Bible’s statement condemning time when “every man did that which was right in his own eyes” (stated various times in the Book of Judges).
In the 18th century AD the Order of the Friars of St. Francis of Wycombe aka the Hellfire Club had, as its motto “Fais ce que tu voudras” (Do what thou wilt). This motto was associated with Francois Rabelais with relation to the fictional Abbey at Theleme which Aleister Crowley later turned into a reality with his own Abbey of Thelema (at Cefalu, Sicily in 1920s AD).
Francois Rabelais (1494-1553 AD) was a writer, doctor, humanist, monk and Greek scholar. The Abbey at Theleme is mentioned in this first book which states that it was built by a giant named Gargantua. The fictional resident of the fictional Abbey lived a lifestyle that “was spent not in laws, statutes, or rules, but according to their own free will and pleasure…In all their rule and strictest tie of their order there was but this one clause to be observed, Do What Thou Wilt; because men that are free, well-born, well-bred…for it is agreeable with the nature of man to long after things forbidden and to desire what is denied us.”
Aleister Crowley’s Book of the Law, which contains the motto, was penned in 1904 AD.
In 1930 AD Aldous Huxley published a book titled, “Do What You Will.”
Fast forward to the most modern of days and we have an instance “Do What You Will” via the Nike motto “Just Do It”—which makes sense as Nike is a Greek false goddess.
Within the article about music we noted how the motto “Do what thou wilt” is found within many song’s lyrics. This is the case not only with the direct word by word quote of “Do what thou wilt” but various versions such as general encouragement that we should do whatever we want.
For example, the Red Hot Chili Peppers song Funky Crime states, “I do what I wanna do.”
Faith No More’s song Anne’s Song states, “Do whatever the hell you want to do! Now is the time where you can do anything, everything you do, anything it’s still gonna turn out great. You’ve got the world at your feet.”
Jane’s Addiction’s song “Ain’t No Right” states, “Cut myself, said ‘So what?’ **********’ took the pain. Said ‘So what?,’ I can’t be wrong. I thought so but there ain’t no right! Ain’t no wrong now, ain’t no right. Ain’t no wrong now, ain’t no right. Only pleasure and pain.”
Thus, pleasure and pain are the ultimate standard, on this view. Of course, in an Atheist universe pleasure and pain are merely the interpretations of bio-chemical neural reactions occurring within the gray-matter of an organism which sits atop a spinning rock revolving around an average star in the universe’s backwaters.
Thus, the Red Hot Chili Peppers’ song “Airplane” states, “I like pleasure spiked with pain” (as the video displays little children, by the way). And so we see that they are preaching pure relativism.
The band Ministry’s Al Jourgensen shows another manner whereby to refer to Aleister Crowley, a manner that many would not recognize via an album titled, “Psalm 69: The Way to Succeed and the Way to Suck Eggs.” Most many think that Psalm 69 is a biblical referenced and “The Way to Succeed and the Way to Suck Eggs” an odd interpretation or just a goofy meaningless statement. However, it is a direct reference to chapter 69 of Crowley’s Book of Lies which it titled as such (and which has nothing to do with the Bible).
On the cover of this album Greek letter where combined the word for head or leader and the Greek for the number 69.
Of course, Ozzy Osbourne wrote the well-known song Mr. Crowley which was referenced in the previous article on music. We will conclude with other song references to Crowley.
David Bowie “Quicksand”: “I’m closer to the Golden Dawn / Immersed in Crowley’s uniform / Of imagery…”
Cold Chisel “Bal-A-Versailles”: “Aleister Crowley and Bar Shem Tov [this seems to be a reference to the Baal Shem Tov; Rabbi Yisroel ben Eliezer who lived 1698-1760 AD and was aka Besht as well and who was a mystic] / Are lyin’ in the alley / Too stoned to move / Them and Aristotle / Are playin’ swy / For one tiny bottle / Of Bal-a-Versailles…From out of east of Eden / Pre-B.C. / To Terra Incognito / Anno Domini / Hits the libido / Bal-a-Versailles / People say it’s an animal thing / A whisper of alien air…”
Robbie Williams “Random Acts of Kindness”; “I am just a simple man / With simple expectations / Deep regrets / They’re seldom met / God speed my generation / And with Crowley on my mind / I should try being kind / For those about to die / We salute you…”
Interestingly, Deep regrets / They’re seldom met seems like a remix of the “Do What Thou Wilt” related Frank Sinatra song “My way” (“I did it my way”) wherein he states, “regrets, I’ve had a few But then again, too few to mention” and For those about to die / We salute you clearly comes from AC/DC’s song which states, “For those about to rock, we salute you.”
Kimya Dawson “Velvet Rabbit”: “Now you’re going to hell man / Where Aleister Crowley milks cows in the dairy / And the cows are the dowry for the dead girls he marries / Tariffs are tallied when bovines are buried / The farmer in the dell is the devil…”
Twiztid “When I Get To Hell”: “When I get to hell, I’m sure that I’ll know everybody from the likes of David Berkowitz to Aleister Crowley / Couple bible thumpers here and there praise the lord, if ya didn’t in your soul, then you destined to get yours / When I get to hell, I’ll be sure to head for the throne and all alone relieve the devil of his dome in his home…I’m goin’ to hell so who’ll come with me…”
Canibus “The Fusion Centre”: “These Jedi mind tricks are no dream…Shuffling down a dark corridor chasing the voice of the orator / The light brightens more and more…As you are forced to recite bars from Ars Notoria [A thirteenth century text on magick]…Virtuoso Vivaldi Aleister Crowley with a baldy flow / Flawlessly cathedral halls applaud me…I kicked in the door I spoke on metaphysics in awe / But they was too stupid to understand the vision involved…”
Say Anything “Mara And Me”: “I contend that the coming holocaust / Will be of those who choose to believe / In anything but a phallic sense of self / Hang alone in the attic, tied up tightly with your father’s belt / You bathe in blood like mister Crowley…”
Sabaton “Metal Ripper”: “You’re in for surprise, you’re in for a shock / In London town streets when there’s darkness and fog / I’m going down, all the way down / I’m on the highway to hell from here…Oh Mr. Crowley did you talk to the dead / Sleep with the devil and then you must pay…”
