Having written much about Aleister Crowley and his influence upon pop-occulture I will herein continue considering personages who have looked to the to mega therion / the great beast for inspiration. The following is translated from Paolo Baroni’s Italian site, “Tutti Pazzi Per Crowley [Something about Crowley],” Centro Sangiorgio, December 27, 2013 AD.
MOONSPELL
“Moonspell is a Portuguese heavy metal band whose musical style combines elements of gothic metal, doom metal, extreme metal and black metal. In 2001 this band wanted to pay homage to the Great Beast 666 including a cover of Mr. Crowley by Ozzy Osbourne.
In 2007, the compilation Under Satanae (Steamhammer 2007), Moonspell, who did not hesitate to deal with Satanic lyrics in their topics, have included the song in 1994 Tenebrarum Oratorium [part II] (Trend II / Erotic Compendyum). In this piece, which Describes a sexual relationship with Lilith, a demoness of Kabbalah [about whom you can learn here].”
Some of the lyrics of Tenebrarum Oratorium, part I are:
“The Majestic horns of Baphomet are indeed our occult banners proudly up in the air! / The androgynous light of Lucifer is our noble passion, most dear and rare!… I worship thee, for they are my weapons to hurt god. Oh! Great wings of Beelzebuth…
‘Ecce Homo!’ – Those you’ll call the wise / Who will destroy this pitful [sic] hole of common sense of disrespect for the true occult devise / Those who from, the lambs, shall feel the sharpened spears of Intelligence!”
Of course, “Ecce Homo” what that which Pontius Pilate state when he brought Jesus out before the crowd; it means behold, the man. These lyrics were attributed to “Langsuyar T. Rex” and dated “Fall 1993 e.v.” with the e.v. being the occultists form of B.C. or A.D.; e.v. means Era Vulgaris as they view non-magickians as being vulgur.
Some of the lyrics of Tenebrarum Oratorium, part II are:
“Oh! Insinuant tongue of Lilith…I lust with thee….the incomparable beauty of Kali…These exquisite Icons of Impurity!…you of Pagan beauty…The lost chimera of Virginity will be your true purity / And thy Crownleyian erotic laws will rule at last!
That the Temptation of Samael…I will hesitate not to enter Hell…Oh! Phallus of Satanachia, possess with me.”
DEATH SS
“Death SS are an English heavy metal band, formed in 1977…A peculiar characteristic of the group is the interest in the themes of the occult, Satanism and horror imagery borrowed from the vast Gothic literature and film…
In 1997 this band released Do What Thou Wilt (Lucifer Rising), a concept album entirely devoted to the doctrines of Crowley. This is demonstrated explicitly in some titles: such as Scarlet Woman, Crowley ‘s Law and Liber Samekh (the title of a work by British magickian).
That Inside the booklet contains the lyrics of Do What Thou Wilt appear in the background several typical symbols…”
