Alchemical Hollywood in “The Game” movie (notes and video)

By “Alchemical” I am, within the context of movies, referring to stories that are not about witches, wizards, warlocks, magicians (or, magickians for that matter) but that have the underlying occult alchemical mystical transformation of the self.

Such is the case with the 1997 AD movie “The Game” which was directed by David Fincher and stars Michael Douglas as Nicholas Van Orton, Sean Penn as Conrad, Deborah Kara Unger as Christine, et al.

Interestingly, the movie is a “Propaganda Films” production.
The premise is that one takes part in a “game” that is meant to be fun and exciting and/but is really meant to be a form of mystical alchemical transformation.

For example, it is noted that it is “A profound life experience” and that it is “a game specifically tailored for each participant.”

John 9:25 is referenced which states, “He answered and said, Whether he be a sinner or no, I know not: one thing I know, that…” yet, the only part quoted is the last statement of the verse which is, “whereas I was blind, now I see.” Thus, within the context, this refers to mystical enlightenment (or, endarkenment).

The game consists of various and sundry people causing various and sundry occurrences within the player’s daily lives. Thus, at one point, the protagonist is unsure what is real and what is not anymore. When a man is dying on the street and the protagonist is asked to call 911, he states, “how do we know he’s real?”; he is losing touch with reality.

There is also a typical elitist blackmailing scene where the protagonist finds his hotel room strewn about with compromising photos and videos, drugs, etc.

There is also a false front home for surveillance purposes.

It also ends with an alchemical death and rebirth ritual. Now, I mean that this is what I read into it due to my reading of the underlying meaning of the movie. Again, you will not see witches, wizards, warlocks, magicians, etc.

Lastly, the movie ends with the reality bending song “White Rabbit” by Jefferson Airplane.
