We continue, from part 1, part 2, our consideration of Richard Dawkins’ review of Richard Milton’s book Shattering the Myth of Darwinism (New Statesman August 28, 1992 AD).
Now, back to the referees, Dawkins notes, “Acceptance need not, of course, depend on the referees’ endorsing the author’s thesis: a serious dissenting opinion can deserve to be heard” most excellently stated. Yet, Dawkins cannot help but continuing from there with “But” and here we go with more childish taunting as he refers to the likes of Milton with terms such as “twaddle” (trivial or foolish speech or writing; nonsense) which Dawkins merely asserts without specific reply is “on almost every page” and “complete and total pig-ignorance of the subject at hand” without elucidating how or why this is the case: it is enough that thus saith Dawkins.
But is it just a case of thus saith Dawkins? No, as more generic arguments from authority follow with “All qualified physicists, biologists, cosmologists and geologists agree” which is a very typical manner of subtle censorship. It is not “All” who “agree” but “All qualified” which means that if you disagree you are instantly disqualified, are censored, thus you do not get published and they can then turn around and claim that you are disqualified because you do not publish.
Dawkins continues the subtle censorship by asserting that “All qualified…agree, on the basis of massive, mutually corroborating evidence, that the earth’s age is at least four billion years.” Do you see how it works now? There are qualified and published physicists, biologists, cosmologists and geologists who disagree on the “orthodox” Earth’s age but they are instantly disqualified based on that alone (even though they may actually be applying Einstein’s theory of relativity which denotes that time is relative and millions of years could be accounted for in the outer reaches of the universe whilst thousands of years have elapsed on Earth).
Interestingly, Richard Dawkins utterly misrepresents Milton by claiming that he “thinks it is only a few thousand years old, on the authority of various Creation ‘science’ sources” which is utterly false. Dawkins wants to avoid troublesome scientific argumentation and knows that his readers will Atheist-amen whatever he authoritatively declares thus, he bypasses the large swaths of scientific evidence within Milton’s book and ignorantly or deceptively implies that Milton quotes creationists, gives them a general thumbs up and moves on.
Within the preface of the 1992 AD edition of his book, Milton writes, “I do not believe that the Earth is only a few thousand years old. I present evidence that currently accepted methods of dating are seriously flawed and are supported by Darwinists only because they provide the billions of years required by Darwinist theories. Because radioactive dating methods are scientifically unreliable, it is at present impossible to say with any confidence how old the Earth is”—so much for taking Dawkins’ word for well, anything.
Oddly, directly after referencing “Creation ‘science’ sources” Dawkins manages to name all of one (note the emotive ad hominem) “the notorious Henry Morris” and then references (note the emotive fanfare) “The great Francis Crick (himself not averse to rocking boats)” indeed, Crick is parroted by Dawkins in urging biologists to deny the design evidence directly before their eyes but he was also an intelligent design proponent.
Francis Crick, What Mad Pursuit, “Biologists must constantly keep in mind that what they see was not designed, but rather evolved.
Richard Dawkins, The Blind Watchmaker, “Biology is the study of complicated things that give the appearance of having been designed for a purpose.”
The best form of mind control seems to be when you can get people to self-impose it.
One again Dawkins parrots Crick by quoting him to the effect of not bothering with scientific argumentation but appealing to the lowest hanging fruit (actually, fruit so low that it dropped to the ground and it rotten); Crick stated, “anyone who believes that the earth is less than 10,000 years old needs psychiatric help.”
