Atheists are planning a “Reason Rally” to be held on March 24, 2012 AD on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. Recently, we saw the founding of the National Atheist (political) Party as part of US Atheist’s desperate attempts to plump their stunningly small numbers.
Celebrity Atheist PZ Myers is calling for Atheists to who attend the rally to express “malice and cruelty” against Christians whom he calls “mindless parasites”—need any more be said? No, but let us consider what this is all about in any regard.
For some odd reason Atheist have attempted to commandeer the term and concept “reason” (as they have “science” and others) seeming to forget, ignore or be ignorant for the Biblical statement, “‘Come now, let us reason together,’ says the LORD” (Isaiah 1:18). For more on this issue see Dan Barker and Bertrand Russell: The Dynamic Duo of Demonstrably Deleterious Delusion.
American Atheists President David Silverman is referring to the anti-Christian support group meeting as a “Woodstock for non-belief.” Of course, one would have thought that we already had a Woodstock of non-belief: it was called “Woodstock.”
The rally is being sold as:
…a movement-wide event sponsored by the country’s major secular organizations. The intent is to unify, energize, and embolden secular people nationwide, while dispelling the negative opinions held by so much of American society… and having a damn good time doing it! It will be the largest secular event in world history. There will be music, comedy, great speakers, and lots of fun…and it’s free!…
Across America, in every city, every town, and every school, secularism is on the rise. Whether people call themselves atheists, agnostics, secular Humanists, or any of the other terms used to describe their god-free lifestyle, secularism is coming out of the closet. According to the 2008 American Religious Identification Survey…the percentage of people with no religious affiliation grew in all fifty states. The purpose of this particular rally will be to advance secularism (in the broadest sense of the word) in society.
Yes, ladies and gentlemen “a movement-wide event” embracing groups as diverse as and wide ranging as Atheism to Agnosticism and Secular Humanism—what a riot! (see here for details on these various anti-Christian support groups).
Speakers will include the most ignorant and malicious Atheists around including:
Annie Laurie Gaylor (co-President of the Freedom From Religion Foundation which is an organization established in the USA, a country premised upon the freedom of religious expression).
Their expected “damn good time” will include music. Perhaps by the same anti-Semitic and anti-Christian Atheist band that played at a Richard Dawkins event A band that (literally) sings the praises of burning synagogues and churches (see news here and commentary here).
One thing that is sure to be expected is that the rally will be typical atheist fare: 0.5% discussion of Atheism and 99.5% anti-Christian prejudice. It is odd that the event is free considering that studies consistently show that Atheists are the least charitable amongst us choosing to wasted money on billboards and bus ads rather than on charity: they would surely pay for this!
The case in not simply that “secularism is coming out of the closet” but that they then seek to kick down your door and dictate to you how you should raise your children: see Atheist Childrearing.
But why, oh why, must they seek the “dispelling the negative opinions held by so much of American society.” Well, obviously, because there is a negative opinion of Atheists held by so much of American society. But why is this the case?
Well, as a response to the anti-Christian support group’s “Reason Rally” is Christians who are planning a event called “True Reason.”
True Reason’s website notes:
This website represents Christians from all over the country—even some from as far as Australia and New Zealand—who know that Christianity is both good and reasonable. We’re ready to meet the New Atheists at their Reason Rally in Washington: in truth and in love, to share person-to-person, one-on-one, with anyone we can.
At particular issue, the site proclaims, is the idea that atheists are using their “Reason Rally” “to trumpet the message that reasonable people reject belief in God.”
Christians, of course, disagree with this notion. To ensure they interact with and combat the overwhelming aura of non-belief, “True Reason” participants will give out free bottled water, a printed mini-book called “Reason Really” and copies of a book about Christianity and atheism during the “Reason Rally.”…
We are going there to share Christ person to person as opportunity arises. We will not raise our voices. We will talk with those who want to talk with us. We will offer gifts and materials to all, but we will not press ourselves on those who do not wish to converse. Knowing that the way others may choose to gather near us is not entirely in our control, we will nevertheless attempt to avoid gathering groups larger than a handful of people. To this loving and reasonable mission statement PZ Myers himself wrote:
Oh, look who’s also going to the Reason Rally: god****** annoying evangelical Christians. I’m beginning to feel like my long-standing personal policy of not intruding on their church services needs to be questioned, because man, is this ever arrogant and obnoxious…
If these people bother you at the rally, I recommend one of two choices: either tell them sternly to leave you alone and walk away, or — and this is the fun part — calmly and politely take their rubbish arguments apart with much soft-spoken malice and cruelty. I guess I shouldn’t be surprised. This gathering will certainly attract swarms of mindless parasites…this is just the first public announcement of their intent that I’ve seen.
So, is a negative opinion of Atheists held by so much of American society, ask PZ Myers.
