The eschaton and the Nephilim – as in the days of Noah

For students of the eschaton the days of Noah are seen as a foretelling or simile of that which will occur at a time yet to come. Eschaton is a term which refers to the end times or last days and thus, pertains to that which some call the apocalypse (which means revelation) or Armageddon (the staging place of the final battle).

Particularly amongst those doing the hard work of attempting to discern the issues raised by Genesis chapter 6 the issue of the days of Noah’s correlation to the eschaton is important.

Genesis 6:1-5 states:
“Now it came about, when men began to multiply on the face of the land, and daughters were born to them, that the sons of God saw that the daughters of men were beautiful; and they took wives for themselves, whomever they chose.

Then the LORD said, ‘My Spirit shall not strive with man forever, because he also is flesh; nevertheless his days shall be one hundred and twenty years.’

The Nephilim were on the earth in those days, and also afterward, when the sons of God came in to the daughters of men, and they bore children to them. Those were the mighty men who were of old, men of renown. Then the LORD saw that the wickedness of man was great on the earth, and that every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.”

Much research has gone into determining the identity of “the sons of God,” “the daughters of men,” “The Nephilim” and “the mighty men who were of old, men of renown” which some transliterate as “giants.”

Our purpose is not to delve into this issue within this article but to point out something, days of Noah related, that is held to by some.

In short, “the sons of God” are the fallen heavenly beings who copulated with human “daughters of men” and that their offspring were “The Nephilim” who were “the mighty men who were of old, men of renown.” or “The Nephilim” were the fallen “the sons of God” whose offspring were “the mighty men who were of old, men of renown.”

For further details see:
Nephilim – one or multiple incursions?

These fallen heavenly beings and their half-breed offspring are said to have been the ultimate cause of the Great Flood, the Deluge, as it is they who, due to being fathered by fallen heavenly beings were spreading, “wickedness” as “every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.” It was the “wickedness of man,” presumably humans, which brought this about yet, keep in mind that the Nephilim are referred to as “mighty men who were of old, men of renown” and that “the wickedness of man was great.”

Now, what does “as it was in the days of Noah” mean? This is a very important question as if you have ever heard someone speak about UFOs, aliens, genetically manipulated hybrids, transhumanism, etc., etc., etc., from a
Christian perspective then if you heard it once you heard it a million times that “Well, Jesus said ‘as it was in the days of Noah so shall it be at the coming of the Son of Man’ and the days of Noah was when the Nephilim hybridization took place.”

Let us consider the days of Noah text in Matthew chapter 24:
“But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but the Father alone. For the coming of the Son of Man will be just like the days of Noah.”

So, there it is and you can throw whatever you want into the mix; UFOs, aliens, genetically manipulated hybrids, transhumanism, etc., etc., etc.

But wait, there’s more; the text provides context as it follows directly with:
“For as in those days before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered the ark, and they did not understand until the flood came and took them all away; so will the coming of the Son of Man be.

Then there will be two men in the field; one will be taken and one will be left. Two women will be grinding at the mill; one will be taken and one will be left. Therefore be on the alert, for you do not know which day your Lord is coming.”

If Jesus wanted to warn us of UFOs, aliens, genetically manipulated hybrids, transhumanism, etc., etc., etc. He would have simply stated “the coming of the Son of Man will be just like the days of Noah. “For as in those days before the flood there was UFOs, aliens, genetically manipulated hybrids, transhumanism, etc., etc., etc. so will the coming of the Son of Man be.”

Luke also touched upon this point in chapter 17:
“And just as it happened in the days of Noah, so it will be also in the days of the Son of Man: they were eating, they were drinking, they were marrying, they were being given in marriage, until the day that Noah entered the ark, and the flood came and destroyed them all.

It was the same as happened in the days of Lot: they were eating, they were drinking, they were buying, they were selling, they were planting, they were building; but on the day that Lot went out from Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven and destroyed them all.

It will be just the same on the day that the Son of Man is revealed.”

The same basic point is made and the “days of Noah” are correlated with the “days of Lot” because the point of the text is illustrated by both.

Also, in 1st Peter chapter 3 we learn:
“For Christ also died for sins once for all, the just for the unjust, so that He might bring us to God, having been put to death in the flesh, but made alive in the spirit; in which also He went and made proclamation to the spirits now in prison, who once were disobedient, when the patience of God kept waiting in the days of Noah,
during the construction of the ark, in which a few, that is, eight persons, were brought safely through the water.

Corresponding to that, baptism now saves you—not the removal of dirt from the flesh, but an appeal to God for a good conscience—through the resurrection of Jesus Christ, who is at the right hand of God, having gone into heaven, after angels and authorities and powers had been subjected to Him.”

This text also references the “days of Noah” and also adds a statement about “the spirits now in prison, who once were disobedient” during “the days of Noah.” So, perhaps “days of Noah” are to be correlated with UFOs, aliens, genetically manipulated hybrids, transhumanism, etc., etc., etc.

After all 2nd Peter chapter 2 states:
“But false prophets also arose among the people, just as there will also be false teachers among you, who will secretly introduce destructive heresies, even denying the Master who bought them, bringing swift destruction upon themselves. Many will follow their sensuality, and because of them the way of the truth will be maligned; and in their greed they will exploit you with false words; their judgment from long ago is not idle, and their destruction is not asleep.

For if God did not spare angels when they sinned, but cast them into hell and committed them to pits of darkness, reserved for judgment; and did not spare the ancient world, but preserved Noah, a preacher of righteousness, with seven others, when He brought a flood upon the world of the ungodly; and if He condemned the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah to destruction by reducing them to ashes, having made them an example to those who would live ungodly lives thereafter; and if He rescued righteous Lot, oppressed by the sensual conduct of unprincipled men…especially those who indulge the flesh in its corrupt desires and despise authority.”

Here angels who sinned are correlated to Noah’s time and the Genesis 6 related sensual indulgence via corrupt desires is references.

Moreover, Jude wrote the following in 4-8:
“…certain persons have crept in unnoticed, those who were long beforehand marked out for this condemnation, ungodly persons who turn the grace of our God into licentiousness and deny our only Master and Lord, Jesus Christ. Now I desire to remind you, though you know all things once for all, that the Lord, after saving a people out of the land of Egypt, subsequently destroyed those who did not believe.

And angels who did not keep their own domain, but abandoned their proper abode, He has kept in eternal bonds under darkness for the judgment of the great day, just as Sodom and Gomorrah and the cities around them, since they in the same way as these indulged in gross immorality and went after strange flesh, are exhibited as an example in undergoing the punishment of eternal fire. Yet in the same way these men, also by dreaming, defile the flesh, and reject authority, and revile angelic majesties.”

So again, we have a reference to the angels of Genesis 6 who did not keep their own domain, abandoned their proper abode and, just as Sodom and Gomorrah, indulged in gross immorality including going after strange flesh.

We have considered six texts; the primary one being Genesis 6 which set the stage. The other five can be dichotomized as the next two refer to the days of Noah and the Second Coming and the last three refer to Genesis 6 directly but do not correlate to the Second Coming. These distinctions are essential as taking a text out of context to make a pretext for a prooftext one can partially quote all of these and string together something which the Bible does not actually state.

The reference to the day that Noah with regards to the second coming is clearly about being aware of the Second Coming unlike those in the days of Noah who were not aware (even though Noah preached to them, by the way):
“For as in those days before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage…they did not understand…so will the coming of the Son of Man be…Therefore be on the alert, for you do not know which day your Lord is coming.”

“…just as it happened in the days of Noah, so it will be also in the days of the Son of Man: they were eating, they were drinking, they were marrying, they were being given in marriage, until the day that Noah entered the ark…the same as happened in the days of Lot: they were eating, they were drinking, they were buying, they were selling, they were planting, they were building…It will be just the same on the day that the Son of Man is revealed.”

Nothing about UFOs, aliens, genetically manipulated hybrids, transhumanism, etc., etc., etc. but warnings about remaining vigilant. These were the two texts, the following three refer to different issues:
“the spirits now in prison, who once were disobedient…in the days of Noah.”

“God did not spare angels when they sinned…but preserved Noah…He condemned the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah…He rescued righteous Lot.”

“…angels who did not keep their own domain, but abandoned their proper abode…just as Sodom and Gomorrah…they…indulged in gross immorality and went after strange flesh.”

But could not the eschaton contain elements of UFOs, aliens, genetically manipulated hybrids, transhumanism, etc., etc., etc.? Certainly, but that does not mean that we connect fragments of verses so as to make a point that we already have in mind. If you are seriously concerned about UFOs, aliens, genetically manipulated hybrids, transhumanism, etc., etc., etc. and you are clearly misapplying biblical texts then those whom you seek to reach with the truth will be turned away when they discern that you are misapplying biblical texts.
