Having spent much of my late teens and early twenties amongst the alternative crowd—you know, the true rebels, the outcasts, the individualists, etc.—I can tell you this much: they all end up looking the same, active the same, speaking the same, same music, same style, same tattoos, same piercings, etc., etc., etc. In fact, the fact that I made it through those years without getting pierced or tattooed makes me the oddball.
Such is the case with the allegedly alternative, rebellious, outcasts, individualists, in the Church of Satan and those who think that the Church is pretty cool.
Every time I read anything stated by Satanists the one thing that stands out is that they are allowed a PR platform in any forum and that they are utterly illogical even whilst claiming to be the utmost in logic. Such is the case with Charles Runnells’ interview with High Priest of the Church of Satan, Peter H. Gilmore (see here and about whom I have written in the past, see here).
At issue is an exhibition of “art” the first of which was titled “The Devils Reign” and the new of which is “The Devils Reign II: Psychedelic Blasphemy.” And one would have thought that in a blasphemous culture blasphemy was oh so passé. But what good is a Church of Satan without something to blaspheme? They would have nothing to do so real or invented they will blaspheme.
Peter H. Gilmore notes of the show that “There’s something guaranteed to offend everybody in this show…If you have sacred cows of any sort, we’re going to butcher and roast them.” What is hilarious is that the Church of Satan has an entire herd of sacred cows and they spend most of their time protecting the herd. For example, push back against any of their PR talking points and they will take it as blaspheme against them.
This exhibit consists of “More than 100 U.S. tattoo artists, illustrators, photographers, painters and sculptors participated in the exhibit and created art inspired by Satan, Baphomet and other supposedly evil entities” and you guessed it: all of them look alike and so does their artwork.
Reportedly, the premise of the show is that which the Church of Satan, as the authority which tells all of those individualists what to do (insert laugh track here), “sees as symbols of rebellion and individualism” which is why they all agreed to do the same thing—you gotta love it!
Gilmore notes that apparently one way to be individualistic is to copy others, “When you look back at the 60s…It was really kind of a broad shakeup of the aesthetics of the time…So we felt like we would latch onto that and resurrect it.”
It is noted that “The Church of Satan was established to be committed at blasphemy in not only Judeo-Christian religion, but Eastern religions, as well, and anything that would be anti-individualist” and all adherents of that “Church” agree to do the same thing whilst looking the same, etc.
Gilmore is asked if “That’s what the Church of Satan is about…rebellion and attacking the establishment?” The reply is that “we’re not rebels without cause. We have to see something that’s actually anti-individualism” and they all agree on that, they dogmatically adhere to the Satanic Bible, etc.
One of the talking points is touched upon when Peter H. Gilmore states that the whole Church of Satan thing is just a PR stunt in and of itself, “The founder of the Church of Satan, Anton Szandor LaVey, worked in carnivals and circuses and played organ for people, and he knew that you had to be a showman to get attention” that he latched upon “something that’s catchy. So the idea of taking Satan — which means adversary and opposer and accuser in Hebrew — and making a church embracing that term was a complete shocker….The Church of Satan is NOT spiritual. It’s utterly material. It’s carnal. It’s physical. It’s skeptical.”
Well, he should read up on Anton LaVey since when his girlfriend Jane Mansfield’s son was mauled by a lion LaVey and his coreligionists gathered together and petitioned Satan as a personal being, summoning him as “our Brother Satan,” in order to ask for the boy’s healing—read up on this here.
Peter H. Gilmore also notes that everyone in the Church of Satan agrees to do the same things with the same goal of that which he puts as “You have to find your own path” and if not then you are wrong. In fact, he adds that “we think that becoming the best you that you can be is the primary goal of every Satanist” and if they feel like the best they can be is someone who murders you as a ritual Satanic human sacrifice then they will do that since Anton LaVey’s Satanic Bible tells them that doing so it a-okay, see “On the Choice of a Human Sacrifice” – Anton LaVey’s Satanic Bible.
So, this group which is a Church, has a Bible and promotes their cause, has certain dogmas, “see ourselves as an un-religion” what a riot!
