Central Michigan University: professor who specialized in internet censorship, William Merrill
Charge: “four felony counts including possession of sexually abusive material, distributing/promoting child sexually abusive activity and using a computer to commit a crime…receiving child porn…investigators found more than 6,000 images/videos of child sex abuse on Merrill’s university computer depicting extreme violence against children. In total, at home and work, Merrill had ‘more than 100,000 images and 1,600 videos involving bondage, bestiality and children in noticeable anguish.’”
University of Southern Maine: music professor, Micah Maurio
Charge: “dissemination of sexually explicit material of someone under the age of 12….he had ‘hundreds of images of child pornography.’”
Clemson University: retired sociology professor, Larry Gene Peppers
Charge: “two felony counts of second-degree sexual exploitation of a minor and four felony counts of third-degree sexual exploitation of a minor…was trading in the rape and torture, PTHC, of children as young as eight years old.”
Army War College: war game developer, Col Robert Joel Rice
Charge: “130 child porn counts…had more than 30,000 images/videos of child sex abuse. His wife had discovered these and notified police.”
Allegheny College: professor of creative writing, Kirk Nesset
Chage: “one count each of child porn distribution, receipt and possession….had over 500,000 videos/images of child sex abuse and thirty folders…trading in child sex abuse since at least 2005…is being sued by eight of the victims, depicted in the child rape he traded.”
University of Arkansas: assistant professor of graphic design, Travis Brown
Charge: “four counts of receipt of child pornography and one count of possession…investigators found some 629 images of children, ages 10-12 years old, being sexually abused.”
Wright State University: professor of physics, Gary Farlow Charge: “possessed in excess of 400 images of child sex abuse…on his university computer.
He was/is listed as a sex offender.
Wright State University: retired early childhood education professor, James Uphoff
Charge: “child porn possession…had been trading in child sex abuse for at least a decade…investigators found 500 images and two videos of child sex abuse, including children in bondage…he left child sex abuse images on a university printer/copier…While he was out on bail, pending sentencing, he was caught, again, with child porn.”
The Citadel Military College: professor emeritus, Richard Pokryfka
Charge: “three counts of second-degree sexual exploitation of a minor and one count third-degree child exploitation…trading in child sex abuse images/videos of children between the ages of 5 and 10 years old…he sent an undercover Homeland Security agent child sex abuse images..”
University of Pennsylvania: professor emeritus and Chair of the Marketing Department at Wharton School of Business, Lawrence Scott Ward
Charge: “child porn production and distribution…four counts of child pornography and sexual misconduct…had been abusing children for decades before he was caught…molesting a 13-year-old there as often as 100 times.” Two trials resulted in probation, U of Pennsylvania kept him in their employment, “he continued to sexually abuse children until his 2006 arrest.” He was a “consultant and founder of a nonprofit youth outreach program for at-risk youths.”
Yale University: professor of geology, Antonio Lasaga Charge: “sexual assault and child porn possession…possessed over 150,000 videos/images of ‘sexual torture of children’ on his Yale and home computers. Prosecutors said the images/videos ‘can only be described as horrific.’ Among these were videos of Lasaga repeatedly raping a 7 year old boy, often on Yale’s campus…there were at least four” prior “reports of Lasaga molesting young children at swimming pools…inappropriately touching two boys, 9 and 11 years old at a local pool…accused of touching children at a YMCA pool…another parent complained Lasaga had molested her son.”
He had “volunteered with New Haven, Connecticut’s Board of Education to mentor disadvantaged youth. He sexually abused the child he ‘mentored’ and produced child porn of the abuse over a five year period.”
University of Hawaii: professor of engineering, Beei Huan Chao
Charge: “possessing and transporting child pornography.”
University of Hawaii: professor of mathmatics, David Stegenga Charge: “child sexual exploitation…12 counts of sexual assault. He had been raping a 7 year old girl over a six year period…was a neighbor and family friend of the child he sexually abused for years….several times a week.”
He was/is listed as a sex offender.
Massachusetts Institute of Technology: post-doctoral researcher, Yaron Segal
Charge: “two charges of traveling to engage in sex with minors and one charge of using the mail to persuade, induce, entice and coerce a minor to have sex” due to “a mother offering her 12 and 16 year old daughters for sex…Segal sent the undercover agent” the mother “links to ‘a strap-on dildo and vibrator and indicated the children he wanted to buy them for’…was using chat rooms called ‘child slave sex’ and ‘child rape torture brutality.’”
