Deleted Atheist priest scene in “The Awakening” movie.
The 2011 AD movie “The Awakening” was directed by Nick Murphy and stars Rebecca Hall as Florence Cathcart, Dominic West as Robert Mallory, Imelda Staunton as Maud Hill, Isaac Hempstead-Wright as Tom Hill, Shaun Dooley as Malcolm McNair, et al.
The movie is basically about a presumed ghost, etc. which is not important to my context.
At one point a typical neo-Atheism logical fallacy of making category mistakes is made as the skeptical ghost busting debunker correlates Santa Claus and the Tooth Fairy with God. In short, a philosophically necessary being, which God is, has no conceptual relation to Santa Claus and the Tooth Fairy.
In the bonus features the film maker explaining a deleted scene.
The context is the “problem of evil” (which is a problem for everyone including Atheists).
The deleted part is that a priest also denies the supernatural. He believes that God is mythical. At a key point he asks the skeptic if she believes in an afterlife and when she said “No” he says, “Neither do I. Terrible isn’t it?” But with a little editing the movie was released with this bit of dialogue going thusly, she said “No” he says, “Terrible isn’t it?” Also, of course, his statement about seeing his role as a priest to keep the God myth alive was cut.
