Rev. Walter Mwambazi is actually noted to be a, “Thought Leader | Neuro-Leadership Coach | Digital Marketer | Author” on his Facebook page on which he posted the question and answer to Nephilim After the Flood?
Yet, he didn’t seem interested in discussing it. I will reproduce his post, followed by my comment with which he didn’t interact.
Genesis 6:4 introduces the mysterious Nephilim: “The Nephilim were on the earth in those days — and also afterward…” This phrase raises a puzzle. If the flood wiped out all flesh, how did giants appear again in Numbers 13:32–33, when the spies reported seeing “descendants of Anak” who were like giants?
📖 Before and After the Flood
Genesis 6:4 already hints at continuity: “and also afterward.” This suggests that the phenomenon of giants was not limited to the pre-flood world. The text anticipates their reappearance in later generations.
📖 Possible Explanations
👉🏾 Survival Theory: Some argue that a remnant of Nephilim survived the flood, perhaps through Noah’s family line or hidden preservation.
👉🏾 Repetition of Angelic Rebellion: Others believe fallen angels repeated their actions after the flood, producing new giants among humanity.
Note: This is my preferred position.
👉🏾 Figurative Use: Some scholars suggest “Nephilim” became a generic term for unusually tall or powerful clans, like the Anakim and Rephaim, without implying supernatural origin.
📖 The Anakim and Giant Clans
Numbers 13:28–33 describes the Anakim as descendants of giants. Deuteronomy 2–3 mentions other giant clans: the Rephaim, Emim, and Zamzummim. These groups were formidable enemies of Israel, echoing the terror of the original Nephilim.
📖 Theological Implication
The reappearance of giants after the flood underscores the persistence of rebellion and corruption. Even after judgment, evil resurfaces in new forms. The Nephilim motif reminds us that humanity’s struggle against spiritual darkness is ongoing.
So, did giants return after the flood? Yes — Scripture records their presence in Canaan. Whether by survival, renewed angelic rebellion, or symbolic description, the Nephilim legacy continued, challenging Israel’s faith and foreshadowing the ultimate victory of God over all powers.
What do you think — were these post-flood giants supernatural beings, or simply mighty human clans remembered in legendary terms? Let’s decode this mystery together.
I, True Freethinker, replied
Rev. Walter Mwambazi Rev., you asked about, “Nephilim After the Flood?” specifically but then, “how did giants appear again” so since you jumped from the specific ancient Hebrew word “Nephilim” to the modern generically subjective English word “giants” so what’s the usage of the vague, generic, subjective, multi-usage and modern English word “giants” in English Bibles? What’s your usage? Do those two usages agree?
When you wrote “in Numbers 13:32–33, when the spies reported seeing ‘descendants of Anak’ who were like giants?” you were too generic:
1) Rather than just citing Numbers 13:32–33 you needed to answer questions such as who said it, why was it said, what was the reaction to it, was it accurate, etc. since, “Numbers 13:32–33” is only telling us where to find it, you didn’t bother telling us that you’re referring to an, “evil report.”
2) You also wrote, “the spies reported” but you failed to tells us there’s two reports in that chapter but you ignored the true and reliable first one and only focused on the second which wasn’t generically by, “the spies” since there were 12 but you’re relying on the 10 that God rebuked: why did you side with them rather than with the God who rebuked them?
3) biblically contextually “Nephilim After the Flood?…giants appear again” would mean, “Nephilim After the Flood?…Nephilim appear again” so since you’re using, “giants” just as an aka for “Nephilim” then “‘descendants of Anak’ who were like giants” would mean “‘descendants of Anak’ who were like Nephilim” but you ignore that it’s not a true report and you didn’t mention that the Septuagint/LXX doesn’t even mention Anakim in that verse.
The Bible never says anything about Nephilim “Before and After the Flood” because God didn’t fail, didn’t miss a loophole, the flood wasn’t much of a waste, etc., etc., etc.
You say “Genesis 6:4 already hints at continuity: ‘and also afterward.’ This suggests that the phenomenon of” Nephilim “was not limited to the pre-flood world.” Sure, when you cut God’s Word in half you can claim “hints…suggests” but you cut God’s Word right when it was going to tell you to what days it’s referring.
Well, it can’t mean anything about the flood since:
1) the flood’s not even mentioned for the very first time until a full 13 verses later.
2) the ONLY post-flood reference to Nephilim is from an “evil report” by 10 unreliable guys whom God rebuked.
3) God didn’t fail, He didn’t miss a loophole, the flood wasn’t much of a waste, etc.
Gen 6:4 states, “Nephilim were on the earth in those days, and also afterward, when the sons of God came in to the daughters of man and they bore children to them. These were the mighty men who were of old, the men of renown.”
The question becomes: when were those days?
Well, Gen 6:1 told us, “When man began to multiply on the face of the land and daughters were born to them, the sons of God saw that the daughters of man were attractive. And they took as their wives any they chose.”
The next question becomes: when was afterward?
Since it was after those days then it was simply after, “When man began to multiply on the face of the land and daughters were born to them…”
Thus, they began doing it then and they continued to do it but that’s all pre-flood.
Just like “Repetition of Angelic Rebellion” theory, for which there’s literally zero indication, “Survival Theory” implies that God failed and it also contradicts the Bible five times (Gen 7:7, 23; Heb 11:7; 1 Peter 3:20 & 2 Peter 2:5).
If “‘Nephilim’ became a generic term for unusually tall or powerful clans” the why is there only one single instance of that.
Also, what does “tall” have to do with Nephilim?—keeping in mind that “tall” is a vague, generic, subjective and multi-usage term.
It’s not “other giant clans: the Rephaim, Emim, and Zamzummim” since Zamzummim is just an aka for Rephaim and Emim (and Anakim) were like clans of that tribe and it’s not “other giant clans” since by “giants” you mean Nephilim but they’re Rephaim: Nephilim were strictly pre-flood hybrids, Rephaim were strictly post-flood humans, and there’s zero correlation between them.
