I am posting a comment I received on this video’s YouTube page written by Daniel Dougan:
This is so ridiculous. Religion is a choice. Gender identity is a genetic predisposition. There is a ton of peer-reviewed research on this. Apples and oranges. Religion is an actual delusion. Dawkins and Zoey Tur are both right and are both rooted in science, and the original poster tried to create an illusion that they were at odds. People who believe in an invisible man in the sky who performs miracles but don’t believe in evolution or climate science have some nerve lecturing someone like Zoey Tur (incorrectly I might add) about genetics. Just because Ben Shapiro said Zoey Tur is delusional doesn’t mean she is actually delusional. She isn’t!
I have a degree in biology, so I know about genetics. What qualifies the original poster to talk about this subject? Does Ben Shapiro know more about this than the American Psychological Association?
Sadly, Daniel may not have been interested in an actual discussion since when I replied with the following comment he never replied in turn:
Most thought provoking, friend. Makes me think about how genetics is a hard science (even if the interpretation of genetic evidence is soft) and yet, psychology is a soft science. For example, just on the issues of homosexuality and, by extension, the issue of LGBTQIAP, it is well known that psychologists changed their views, practices and proclamations not due to science but due to socio-political activism. Also, even if it is the case that “Gender identity is a genetic predisposition” there is a difference between predisposition and action so that even someone with a genetic predisposition decides to act upon that genetic predisposition.
Lastly, if religion is an actual delusion what do you call a person of one gender who thinks that they are of the other gender?
