Susana Martinez is the governor of New Mexico. In fact, she is the first female governor in New Mexico in history.
Now, here is a pop quiz: how many women rights organizations sung the praises of this accomplishment? Anyone, anyone? The actual count appears to be zero, zip, zilch, nada, donut (or, bagel). That is because she has an “R” next to her name and so, she does not count.
The issue of homosexual marriage (aka “gay marriage” and “same sex marriage”) is a hot topic in New Mexico as it is country wide.
Recently, Antonio Darden, a hair stylist, announced his refusal for style Gov. Martinez’s hair due to, and until such time as she changes, her opposition to homosexual/gay/same sex marriage. As he retells it:
The governor’s aides called not too long ago, wanting another appointment to come in. Because of her stances and her views on this I told her aides no. They called the next day, asking if I’d changed my mind about taking the governor in and I said no again.
Gov. Susana Martinez holds to the view that marriage should be between one man and one woman. In other words, she holds to the same view as originally held by the Clinton administration and the Obama administration.
Antonio Darden further stated:
I think it’s just equality, dignity for everyone. I think everybody should be allowed the right to be together. My partner and I have been together for 15 years.
Clearly, he means “equality, dignity for everyone” except for Gov. Martinez. What Darden is doing is that he is expressing prejudice by discriminating against her based on her socio-political views.
Note that he remarks that “everybody should be allowed the right to be together” yet, surely he does not mean “everybody” as no one means “everybody” when they say “everybody” within the context of the issue of marriage. But more importantly, just who is stopping anyone from being together? He has been together with his partner for 15 years. The issue is not being together but demanding that the state, the government and society be made to consider a one man and one woman marriage to be the same as a two men or two women (or, whatever “everybody” means to somebody).
Seems that the discrimination and prejudice will be not only swept under the rug but it is being praised. On the other hand, when a local photographer refused to photograph a homosexual/gay/same sex couple lawsuits were a flying!
But why was this not worldwide or at least nationwide news? Well, for one thing such discrimination is simply a non-issue. How so? Because it is made into an issue and made in to a one sided issue. In other words, if the discrimination is against homosexuals then it makes the news, changes laws, etc. but if it goes the other way, such as in this case, it is utterly ignored.
Another reason that it did not make the news is that Gov. Martinez did something radical: she did not call for a press conference, did not call for boycotts, did not demand that Darden be fired and his business shut down—she simply went elsewhere.
Another such a case that was ignored by the media as a whole was when Steven Crowder had himself video recorded going to Muslim caterer after Muslim cake maker asking them to cater and make cakes for his homosexual wedding and one after another they refused him service. What came out of this? Utterly nothing.
