The 1987 AD movie Angel Heart was directed by Alan Parker and stars Mickey Rourke as Harry Angel, Robert De Niro as Louis Cyphre, Lisa Bonet as Epiphany Proudfoot, et al.
It is categorized within the crime genre and it is about crime but that is merely the very surface of the story which is a deeply occult tale. Occult as in pertaining to witchcraft and Satanism and deeply occult in that William Hjortsberg, who wrote the story, peppered it with interesting references.
Firstly, the name Harry Angel: this means ruler of an enclosure such as a home and messenger so perhaps the messenger of a realm’s ruler. The name from whence it comes, Harold, is a compound term from here/army and weald/ruler, power, control.
Louis Cyphre is actually a cypher which the movie reveals to stand for Lucifer and about which Lucifer states that he uses the pseudonym Louis Cyphre because Mephistopheles is such a mouthful.
Contextually, Epiphany refers to a divine or supernatural being’s manifestation and/or sudden revelation or insight. And as for Proudfoot well, “Pride goes before destruction” (Proverbs 16:18).
There is also reference to Edward Kelley who in real life is the name of John Dee’s magickal scribe. Dee (1527-1609 AD) was Queen Elizabeth I’s occultist and mathematician, astronomer, astrologer, etc.
Symbolism in the movie include pentagrams and the whole thing is about selling one’s soul to the Devil.
Harry Angel claims to be an Atheist.
Epiphany Proudfoot claims to have had a virgin birth by some Voodoo gods.
Now, you may be aware of much ado about the Disney company and its movies within conspiracy circles. Well, there is a reference to the Mickey Mouse Club in this movie: something about how since it is Wednesday then anything can happen.
Beyond Lucifer, there is a specific reference to the more obscure term “Lucifuge.” According to the Grand Grimoire, which is one of many how to of black magick (its editions variously date to 1521-1522 or 1421 AD) Lucifuge Rofocale is a demon in charge of Hell’s administration by order of Lucifer.
